This week’s episode of My Little Pony is all about Rainbow Dash getting some amazing news. She has been bumped up from reserve Wonderbolt to full fledged Wonderbolt for the upcoming show. Now that’s awesome, but it appears that she’s going to have to deal with a bit of unexpected drama.
Fire Streak has decided to retire and become a full fledged teacher and Rainbow Dash was the at the top of the reserves list. She has to head to Wonderbolt Headquarters to train for the upcoming show. Fluttershy and Applejack wish her luck and Twilight tells her that she might be underestimating how difficult all of the training could be. When she gets to headquarters Rainbow Dash is super excited and does a lot of Wonderbolt fanponying. In all her excitement she forgets one of the big rules of the Wonderbolts, always look both ways before crossing the runway. As Dash makes her way across the runway, after getting suited up, two Wonderbolts are making an entrance. She dives out of the way and crashes into a trashcan, earning her the nickname Rainbow Crash. We get a flashback that shows she had the same nickname as a filly. After the big crash, she finds herself struggling with the routine. Afterward she also finds herself having to clean the locker room.

Back in Ponyville all the main ponies have thrown her a party to celebrate becoming a Wonderbolt. She says she’s tired and doesn’t want to celebrate, but when pressed she reveals they’ve been calling her Rainbow Crash. The other Mane Six tell her that her next day should be better, but Rainbow Dash doesn’t seem to have taken their advice the way that they were hoping. She goes back to headquarters and instead of acting like herself she acts like all the other ponies. We wind up seeing her acting like Pinkie Pie, Applejack, Twilight, Fluttershy, and Rarity. Each of these impressions even have their own nicknames, including Reading Rainboom. Spitfire tells her that she needs to start acting like herself and says she has something for her. Rainbow Dash gets her own Wonderbolts jacket, but it has her new nickname on it. Apparently all the Wonderbolts have their nicknames and not their real names on their stuff, which definitely doesn’t help Dash feel any better.

On the day of the show Rainbow Dash recruits Scootaloo to help her with a grand plan. She has moved a storm cloud near a ridge that the Wonderbolts will be flying by and she wants Scootaloo to push the storm cloud into her path as she flies by so that a thunderbolt will flash as she dashes by. Scootaloo isn’t sure about the plan, but goes along with it because Dash wants her to do it. The show is going really well, even if Pinkie Pie and Spike are missing it while Pinkie Pie gets a massive cotton candy made. Scootaloo gets the signal and launches the cloud. It doesn’t work the way Rainbow Dash expected and she winds up crashing into everything in her path. Then to add insult to injury she gets shocked and lands in Pinkie Pie’s massive cotton candy. Spitfire demands an explanation and Rainbow Dash apologizes and says that she doesn’t deserve to be a Wonderbolt. They all say that they’ve wanted her to be one of them for ages and that she’s an amazing flyer. It turns out all the Wonderbolt nicknames come from goofy things that they’ve all done like clip their wings on flagpoles or land on someone’s hoof while landing. She gets probation for a month, but Dash is so excited to be a Wonderbolt that she doesn’t even mind.
