My Little Pony Recap: Applejack’s “Day Off” from @kleffnotes

Can you imagine Applejack taking a day off from the farm? Neither can I. This week though our hard working farm pony decides to take some time for herself, or at least she tries to. Now let’s get to the recap.

The episode opens with Rarity attempting to have a spa day with Applejack, but things wind up getting a bit prunier than our fashion designing pony would like. Rarity runs into Twilight and Spike at the Apple Farm and mentions that she hasn’t had any quality time with Applejack in ages. Twilight didn’t realize that Applejack was so busy and when Rarity asks her about the spa day Applejack honestly seems to have forgotten. The Princess of Friendship offers to help take care of the farm or at least one chore so that Applejack can leave for an hour of spa time with Rarity. Applejack gives them a very detailed list about feeding the pigs and Twilight insists that she can handle it, it is a list after all.

With her friend’s new found free time Rarity has a lot planned to help her relax. As Spike and Twilight begin the list it actually tells them to walk away from the pig area instead of feed them. Surprisingly Rainbow Dash is at the spa. She insists that she totally wasn’t there for anything frou frou and was there for a sporty massage. She is there for a massage, apparently she comes in for a regular relaxing appointment, but panics and leaves after being seen by her two friends. Rarity realizes that the spa is running a bit behind and is suddenly worried that they won’t be able to get a steam.

The line of ponies waiting is exceptionally long and Rarity says that they need to start their time with something else. Apparently the line of ponies is waiting for the steam to build up in the room, which a very rich and snooty pony insists is key because her mansion is full of regular rooms. Applejack realizes that they must not have enough water if the room isn’t filling with steam and starts investigating. She follows the pipes and finds the laundry room. The washers have been running at full power to provide the ponies at the spa with warm towels. Applejack realizes that there is a leak and that the lack of steam leads to more towels which exacerbates the problem of not having enough water/steam. They need to do less laundry to get more steam for the steam room. Applejack insists she can’t leave the spa like this and gets to work. While she focuses on fixing the water problem, Rarity gets her spa treatments. There isn’t any time left for Applejack to relax. Rarity points out that the spa is definitely in need of an outside eye to make sure things are running efficiently.

Our hardworking pony still hasn’t had time to relax and Rarity suggests that they head back to the farm and check on Twilight so that Applejack can give her further instructions. That way the two of them can head back to the spa and actual spend some time relaxing together. They find Twilight having some issues feeding the pigs and Applejack thinks that she should just stay and finish up the work herself. Twilight apologizes for not getting the work done, but says at least Applejack and Rarity got to spend some time together. Rarity reveals that they never spent any time together because of the steam problem.

Then Applejack starts discussing how she couldn’t just let ineffective methods keep happening. While she’s explaining that issue she is going through a ridiculously complicated process for feeding the pigs, which is much like what was happening at the spa. We then go through all of Applejack’s chores to see if she is doing any unnecessary work. It turns out that her chores have been taking so long because she has been doing extra work. The main idea is that an outside eye can help you streamline any habits that you might have. Rarity and Applejack head back to the spa and before they can do anything they find Rainbow Dash there and invite her to join them. She says that she will, even if it does mean she’ll have to “suffer” through some frou frou treatments.
