Beauty and the Beast – Does JT Enjoy The Danger? via @stacyamiller85 @AustinBasis @cwbatb #BATB #Beasties

The fourth season of Beauty and the Beast has begun.  Will the final season be a quiet one for our characters?

From what happened in the Season Premiere episode “Monsieur et Madame Bete,” I would say the answer is no.  Although Catherine (Kristin Kreuk) and Vincent (Jay Ryan) tried to have a peaceful honeymoon like any newly married couple, things just didn’t work out that way- courtesy of JT and his phone call to Paris to the newlyweds.

This article contains spoilers so if you haven’t seen the season premiere, please do not continue reading.

While Professor JT Forbes is giving a lecture, he learns from one of his students that there is a blogger writing about cross genetic mutation.  The student questions JT about the existence of ‘beasts’ and this sends him into a frantic tailspin to warn Catherine and Vincent, thus the honeymoon call.  Tess, (Nina Lisandrello) who wants a normal life away from the beastie drama, questions JT about whether he enjoys it all.  Although he denies it at first, JT finally admits that “I can’t deny it’s who I am. I need to make a bigger difference.”

It’s easy to understand why JT would feel this way.  Here is a highly intelligent man who probably spend his life as a geek. Books, studying were important to him.  And it’s a safe bet to say that he probably was on the receiving end of teasing and jokes about being a nerd.  When you’re viewed as different and “not cool” by the so-called popular crowd, it hurts.  Then, JT meets Vincent.  And Vincent is the definition of a jock but he wants to be JT’s friend.  So, JT gets pulled into Vincent’s life- beastie dangers and all.  Now, JT has the chance to be both a nerd and a jock.  He’s using his brains (and sometimes brawn) to help save his friend and many others.  Plus, he’s gotten a hot girlfriend (Tess) in the process!

I like that JT, as played by Austin Basis, is a multifaceted person.  There are a lot of characters on television that fit into the standard stereotypes, but thank goodness, JT Forbes isn’t one of them. I think that is why the character is so likable.  He’s just like us, “one of the guys.”

And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
