Rarity and Pinkie Pie find themselves in a bit of foodie drama this week as they help a father and daughter work to keep their restaurant open. Before we even get to the recap this title totally made me think of the Spice Girls. Now I just want to see pony versions of the British girl group, if that already exists you should totally let me know. Okay, now to the actual recap.
The Mane Six, Spike and Starlight are collected in the map room to see if they can get it working again. It hasn’t been up to snuff since Starlight’s adventures in time. After a bit of magic the map is up and running, but it takes it a little while to warm up. Eventually it reveals that Pinkie Pie and Rarity are needed in Canterlot, which Rarity is exceptionally excited about. The two head out and decide to go with the flow, according to Pinkie Pie’s motto. After a grumbling tummy alerts Rarity to how hungry Pinkie Pie is they head out to restaurant row. Rarity insists that they need to stop at one with a three hoof rating from the Zesty Gourmand. Apparently this particular pony was raised around fabulous food and her word makes or breaks a restaurant. Rarity picks a few places, but neither she nor Pinkie Pie likes them. Pinkie decides to pick the next one and after following her nose we wind up at The Tasty Treat.

This particular place hasn’t been rated, but the food sounds delicious. The chef is Saffron Masala and her father, Coriander Cumin, is the host. No one has been coming to the restaurant and this has been causing a huge rift between the father and daughter. The Zesty Gourmand refused to rate the place because it was so empty, but Rarity insists that she can get the Gourmand and Pinkie says that she can pack the place with ponies. Coriander is very downbeat about everything and doesn’t think that Rarity will be able to make it work. When she does arrive with good news she says that the small catch is that Zesty can only come that night. They say they can make it work, but Rarity says that they will have to redo the restaurant to make sure it fits with the tastes of the critic. Pinkie Pie and Saffron head out to get guests.

A big musical number breaks out, but Pinkie Pie and Rarity have very different ideas of how to make the restaurant a success. Rarity thinks that they should be like every other place in Canterlot, while Pinkie Pie says that they need to embrace what makes them unique. As Rarity overhauls The Tasty Treat, Pinkie and Saffron are having issues getting guests. Canterlot ponies don’t want to eat at a place that isn’t rated, but some tourists arrive and they seem very interested. Saffron and Pinkie Pie are shocked when they get back. Pinkie is upset that Rarity took away the uniqueness and the delicious food. Saffron is also very upset because the food that she wanted to make is no longer on the menu.

Rarity and Pinkie start arguing, but everything stops when the Zesty Gourmand arrives. Saffron wants to give Zesty food with some flavor, but Rarity insists she just stick to the plan. Pinkie grabs the bowl and after a tussle the bowl goes flying through the air and hits Zesty. The Gourmand storms out and insists that Rarity keep her nose out of the restaurant business. Saffron makes noodle soup to cheer up everyone and Pinkie and Rarity both love it. Coriander and his daughter make up and when that happens Rarity realizes that they shouldn’t conform, but rather embrace how amazing their food is.

Rarity sets off to get a crowd and Pinkie Pie is in charge of bringing back the restaurant’s uniqueness. Saffron and Coriander are able to bond over cooking together and they thank both ponies for their help. They are just happy to have been brought closer together. Ponies start filling up The Tasty Treat and Zesty reappears. She doesn’t understand why everyone is there and gets very rude. Zesty insults both Rarity and Pinkie Pie, but Rarity says that she can’t tell people what to eat. The other restaurateur ponies chime in that they love this food and are going to go back to making what they love instead of what Zesty wants. She refuses to eat the food, but when she leaves all the ponies cheer. Pinkie and Rarity’s cutie marks both light up and Pinkie announces that nothing can stop the dynamic duo.
