We jump into season two of Killjoys right where season one ended. D’Avin has been captured and Dutch and Johnny need to find a way to get the third part of their trio back. Dutch announces that they will find him to the universe, but then things get a little wonky.
Instead of staying on Lucy with Dutch, we are instead on Arkyn. The trio is back together and they are about this break in and do some butt kicking. As they bust their way in they run into Fancy and D’Avin starts getting a bit weird. He doesn’t understand why the former Killjoy is there and then a sudden kiss happens between D’Avin and Dutch. This is the big weird out moment because we are suddenly in a room with D’Avin hooked up to a machine and humming. While he might look happy the doctor says he needs another dose and he gets spinal tapped. Back in the real world on Lucy, Dutch tries to smash her way into the planet, through a very dangerous security layer. Johnny forces Lucy to push them back out and they have to go to plan B. They go to Bell and find out that someone has been to Arkyn , but the only tech that can help our crew is in a barter town. They need a known criminal to get in and conveniently Pree, the now former bartender, can help them out. Johnny and Pree sneak Dutch in and things are about the get stolen.

Back in D’Avin’s head we see him out in the cold and rocky wilderness again, but this time he’s looking for Dutch and Johnny. When he sees someone attacked they bleed green, which seems to hint that D’Avin is retaining at least some idea of what is happening to him in real life. Back with the rest of the team, Dutch is wearing some brand new lenses designed to help her spot anything that’s been on Arkyn. She finds it, but they need to bust it out of a safe. Pree and Johnny fake a lovers’ spat and Lucy starts taking over the entire building’s system. With their own compute hacking their way in, they find the shield they’ve been looking for, but there’s definitely a problem. The shield is inside a very human host. We jump back to D’Avin’s mind and it is a mess of events, plus Khlyen is there. Suddenly he’s awake in a vat of green and demanding answers, which the doctors totally aren’t prepared for.

In the vault, Dutch tells the woman with the shield inside her that she needs the tech to save one of her partners. Johnny has to old school hack the system, but now Dutch and her new friend are going to have to fight their way out. Turns out shield girl can definitely lend a hand, specifically one named Alice. She and Dutch blow their way to Johnny and Pree, but our robo-armed friend gets shot during the commotion. On Arkyn the doctors reveal to Khlyen that D’Avin is immune to the program. He’s literally rejecting it. Khlyen kills all the men in the room and tells D’Avin that he is going to break him out. On Lucy, Johnny is trying to help out the hack moded girl, who finally reveals her name is Clara. The smuggling gang that Bell told them had the shield, had it implanted in her and she says they have a deal. Johnny says that they have time, which confuses Dutch. Khleyn is finally explaining to D’Avin what is going on and it turns out he wanted to make him level six and give him back to Dutch, but D’Avin would have been totally loyal to him.

Dutch and Johnny are discussing the shield inside Clara and he says the reason that he wants to wait is because the shield is completely part of her. Clara will literally absorb the radiation into her own body and Johnny doesn’t want to do that kind of damage to her. Clara’s bionic ears tip her off to the conversation, she wants to know exactly what’s going on. Dutch tells her about why they need to get into Arkyn. Clara hooks in and drives Lucy through to the planet’s surface. Pree says he’ll stay with her and Lucy is on guard, Dutch and Johnny make a run for it. Khleyn connects with the base and removes all data related to D’Avin. The Black Root arrives, which is apparently very bad news, but Khleyn pushes him outside. He tells him to find Dutch and that he’ll take care of the Black Root. Something is definitely up though because D’Avin knew memories that he shouldn’t have. Very curious this level six business. Khleyn gives himself up to the Black Root, who shock him into submission and are taking him somewhere. D’Avin finds Dutch and Johnny, they also have Fancy with them. When Dutch asks about Khleyn he says that he saw him leave. On Lucy, D’Avin asks if Fancy got the green stuff and when he says no, D’Avin shoots him. Even though he bleeds momentarily, he comes back to life. They get him off their ship, but before they leave they make sure that D’Avin can’t heal.

One quick hand slice later, the crew flies by Old Town and explains to D’Avin everything that has happened. They land on Leith and Clara is going to hideout there. Johnny offers to get her help, but she doesn’t want to go back to being a basic. She embraces her mods and refuses to be changed because someone else tells her she needs to be. The warrant that Dutch and Johnny had to get the shield has some interesting wording and based on that they let Clara go. Lucy has all of out moded woman’s info and if our team needs her she can get a hold of her whenever, even though Lucy wishes she could stay. D’Avin comes clean about Khleyn and Dutch tells him that she knew all along, she just knew that they needed to leave. He tells her that he thinks there’s something more going on that they don’t know about. D’Avin thinks that there is someone who Khleyn is afraid of and that all along he’s been protecting Dutch from whoever that is. He also says that in his memories he saw Dutch on Arkyn, which she doesn’t remember ever happening.
