Dark Matter came back this week with the premiere of season two on Friday night. I had hoped to have this recap up a bit sooner, but there are only so many hours in a day. The episode started with Two, Three, and Four in a decontamination unit. They aren’t alone, once they are cleaned up they walk out into a prison unit. One and Five wake up together in a bunk and after trying to figure out what happened when Six walks in.

He was undercover the entire time, but didn’t remember. When he met the General last season a man came to him and told him that he was undercover too and filled him in on everything. Apparently after he lost it a bit in his first meeting with the General, he was given a new assignment, infiltrate the Raza. He was sent proof by the associate he met and has taken up his place as part of the GA. Six knows who they all really are, they did DNA scans, but he hasn’t said anything about who Two really is. In a meeting with his superior he says that they should keep her in isolation, but his boss gets irritated at the unwanted advice. One has a lawyer and while he wants to help Five, she tells him he needs to distance himself from these people. She also has a plastic surgeon lined up to change his face back, but he refuses. One insists that she get him the files on his wife’s murder.

 

During a brief break from their cells, Three is confronted by a group of men who insist he screwed them over in the past. He totally doesn’t remember, but before they can hurt him someone comes to his rescue. His savior is a female prisoner who asks for his ration card, which the other guys wanted, and before she can take it Two appears. The two fight to a draw, but before they can officially determine a winner a guard appears and shocks both of them. Android is being examined by a tech person and she tells him that she has recall of 47 days, with some gaps, but when he asks her to upload her files she refuses. He wants to upload a way to get the files, but she says that this will trigger a security protocol that will lead to a full reboot of her system. Three is in the infirmary and a man there starts chatting with him. He says that Three should work to find a way to stay in the infirmary because it’s much better than out with the general population. Two wakes up in solitary and is applauded for holding her own against Nyx, the woman who was trying to get Three’s ration card. She’s stuck in solitary until further notice, which is definitely not cool.

In One’s new quarters the acting chief officer of his company, Darius, arrives. He says that he sent Felicia, the lawyer, to help him. Well, this is where I have some slight concerns. Darius says that he watched One grow up and that he swore to his father that he would take care of him. One doesn’t understand why the man who killed his wife would have been part of this kind of operation and Darius insists he was involved with every step of the original investigation and saw no issues. Why does this make me think Darius hired a hit and it went sideways? Four is eating when a group of men come by and interrupt him. A huge fight breaks out, Four is really good at getting those started. A super shrill tone plays and all the prisoners go down. Six walks into a holding area and finds another GA officer hanging out and drinking, it’s the one who told him he was part of the GA. The trial that was going to be held is postponed indefinitely. Ferris is trying to push for a quick trial, but things are getting messy. The other man tells Six that justice isn’t really what’s happening. Back in Two’s solitary cell a section lights up, when she walks onto it she winds up in a virtual area, Nyx is there too. They start chatting and she reveals that she didn’t plan to take Three’s ration card, she just wanted to test him out. Nyx and Two compliment each other’s fighting styles and Two is very surprised by just how good her opponent was.

Six is back on the Raza alone. He goes to his room and starts checking the files that were sent to him by the associate who insisted he was an undercover agent. He can’t access all of them and goes to visit Five. She thanks him for the books and tablet, saying that if she didn’t have those she would go crazy. He says that he has something that could occupy her time, she could crack a file for him. Five is very upset that he would ask her to help him after everything he did, but he reveals who she really is and says that he was trying to do this to help all of them. One is running into more issues with his wife’s case. Darius tells him that they have everything worked out for him to come home, but the only lead they had, the security guard, died in a bar fight the night before. Four has been brought in to meet with a man named Arax, he’s apparently a big time prisoner. He tells Four that he has been asked to hand over the instigator of the fight, but doesn’t want to see him go mad doing a six month, or more, solitary period. This guy makes sure the prisoners stay in line for special perks from the warden. There are men with tattoos who also have a certain arrangement, but they aren’t his men. Four learns that the thing that put all the prisoners down was a sonic frequency that the guards have a way to deaden. Arax insists that Four and his friends stay in line or they will regret it.

Three is back out in general population and is not okay with his rations, there’s totally a maggot in it so I understand. He doesn’t even get time to eat the stuff before he has to go work on laundry duty. One gets a visit from Six, who is impressed by his swanky digs. Even though One feels trapped, Six says it’s still nicer than the real thing. He tells him that Five will be alright and over drinks they talk about One’s return to his former life. He though doesn’t feel right about going back. One thinks it is very weird that whenever he tries to talk to a lead they mysteriously wind up dead. Six thinks being on the Raza might have made him paranoid, but he insists it made him see how dangerous being too trusting can be. Six tells him that no matter what when One woke up he knew the right thing to do because of who he is and not to forget that. In the prison laundry room Three decides to do something a bit dangerous and burns his arm so that he’ll get put back in the infirmary. Six and Five meet to talk about the file and our very skilled hacker has what he wanted to see, but she says that he isn’t going to like it.

In the infirmary, Three thinks he’s fine, but things have changed. The female nurse is off on stress leave and the old guy who told him to hurt himself has been transferred to psych for regular doses of electroshock therapy. In the VR world, Nyx tells Two that it’s weird that they haven’t had a trial and that they should be worried. Six confronts the guy he was talking with earlier and we learn that the GA knew about the bombing plan that killed all those people. His friend insists that he told him the truth and that the GA did what it did to get more attention and cash. Two, Three, and Four are reunited in the dining hall and start sharing information about how the prison works. They think Two’s tech might help her and she shares that she thinks Nyx could help them. Four also warns them about the prison gang system and the very creepy Arax. They are totally breaking out of this thing. There is a plan in place with Six’s boss to do something to the crew of the Raza, including Five. This is definitely not okay.They are all going to be transferred, Five is told she has to go to a group home and she insists that they put her in general population so that she can be with her friends. The guard forces her to follow him as Six watches. She insists that he is just trying to get rid of her. Another officer shows up, a different GA has taken over the case and no one is going anywhere. Then the entire world went insane and I lost my mind. That ending! Not okay!!! Okay, so the real Jace Corso arrived and shot One. I wasn’t expecting that at all and I have no idea what implications this will have for the rest of this season.
