Carrie Cutter (aka Cupid) has done some unsavory things. Her wrath has been felt within the Arrow universe. There have been victims of her revenge and obsession. Yet, Arrow fans can’t seem to get enough of Cupid and are quite vocal in their desire to see the character return to the show. This is due in large part to the dynamic performances by the actress who portrays Cupid: Amy Gumenick.
Gumenick, who was Sam and Dean Winchester’s ill-fated mother Mary on The CW’s long running show Supernatural, has mesmerized viewers by her interpretation of Cupid. Rather than falling into the easy trap of making Cupid a predictable villain, Gumenick instead allows us to witness an emotionally fractured woman who must reconcile her head and her heart. Pain from a less than idealistic past coupled by an overriding need for love motivate Cupid’s actions. With her very expressive eyes, inflections in voice and body language cues, Gumenick inhabits Cupid very well. Viewers are curious to see what she will do next.
With Arrow poised to begin its fifth season in the fall, will the Arrow writers be struck by the creative inspiration to bring Cupid back to the series landscape?
More Cupid in Season 5? That’s an idea viewers will love.
