His alter ego, John Rayburn, may be dealing with the blues due to destructive family secrets, but for actor Kyle Chandler, things are golden. The Bloodline star has received another Emmy nomination.
The versatile film(King Kong, Zero Dark Thirty, Argo, Super 8, The Wolf of Wall Street) and television actor first impressed audiences in ABC’s Tour of Duty and as Cleveland Indians baseball player Jeff Metcalf in the 1940s period drama Homefront. As Gary Hobson in CBS’ Early Edition, Chandler was the unsung hero racing across the streets of Chicago preventing disasters foretold by tomorrow’s edition of the Chicago Sun Times he received a day early. Later, Chandler had a memorable turn as an ill-fated bomb squad leader in a riveting episode of Grey Anatomy for which he received his first Emmy nomination for guest actor. Chandler led the Dylan Panthers to a state championship with a battle cry of “clear eyes, full hearts can’t lose” as Coach Eric Taylor in the critically acclaimed series Friday Night Lights winning the Outstanding Lead Actor Emmy for his work.
John Rayburn is a morally conflicted character that is a departure from Chandler’s good guy roles. Chandler is delivering some of the best work of his career in Bloodline. Netflix recently renewed Bloodline for a third season.
