“Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters!”
That famous line has been used since the 1984 premiere of Ghostbusters starring Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray and Harold Ramis. Fighting ghosts became a cool and awesome profession for the formerly timid nerd. Now, with a new Ghostbusters movie hitting the theaters on July 15, I’d like to take a look at the origin of ghost hunters in the media:
Ghostbusters (1975)
The Ghosbusters starred Forrest Tucker and Larry Storch and was a live action comedy about inept detectives hunting ghosts.
Possibly the most famous ghost hunters of all-time. These ghostbusters changed the way how we looked at spirits and those who track them.
Filmation’s Ghostbusters (1986)
An animated series based on Filmation’s 1975 live-action television show.
The Real Ghostbusters (1986)
An animated series based on the 1984 feature film Ghostbusters.
Ghosthunters (2004)
Plumbers who moonlight as ghosthunters for customers who report paranormal activity. Airs on SyFy.
Supernatural (2005), Ghostfacers (2010, webseries)
A pair of evil hunting brothers who battle the supernatural, including ghosts. Sam and Dean Winchster met Ed Zeddmore and Harry Sprangler in the Season 1 episode “Hell House.” The duo ran a website called Hell House Lair.com and were amateur ghost hunters. When they returned in Season 3 episode “Ghostfacers,” they had a new name-Ghostfacers- and were joined by Maggie, Spruce and Corbett. For the Ghostfacer webseries, new team member Ambyr joins.
Ghostbusters (2016)
The long awaited reboot to the Ghostbusters franchise starring Melissa McCarthy. Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters…again!
