#SDCC @ALTERNACOMICS Announcement: #TheChair Definitive Edition Debut

Alterna Comics is celebrating 10 years of amazing content by highlighting some of their most fan loved comics. This fall they’ll be debuting the third and definitive edition of The Chair, which has done so well that it has even inspired a movie by the same name.

The Chair is one of the flagship publications of Alterna Comics and was created by Alterna founder, Peter Simeti. While this is a thriller/horror comic, the story is something that can resonate with a number of readers. It’s set in a prison where savage killings and mutilations are committed by the sadistic guards and wardens, which we learn about through the focus of our main character, an innocent man trapped within this horrific environment. The focus of this piece is on the dynamic between those in power and the powerless and is full of twists and turns, which is something that will appear to more than just horror lovers.

While reading this comic I was enthralled by what was unfolding. Our main character’s story is something that could conceivably happen to anyone, after being wrongfully convicted of murder he is sentence to death. After bouncing around within the prison system the final prison he winds up in is a place for those considered to be too evil to matter. Within the first few pages we see a mutilated man chained to a wall and later a man literally explodes because of an electric shock. When I learned that a movie had been made based on this comic I was both excited and terrified, which I think is a pretty normal reaction to a horror movie. I think this movie will be wonderfully horrifying. If you haven’t read The Chair yet you absolutely need to.
