It’s always ominous when a show opens an episode with someone trapped in a little box surrounded by flickering lights, and that’s exactly how this episode of Killjoys started.
The episode didn’t stay there long, we found ourselves in what initially appeared like a very adult scene between Dutch and D’Avin. The two of them were about to get physical, but not in the bedroom way. Sparring commences and after Dutch pins D’Avin Turin pops up on a video screen. He reveals Red 17 sent a message to Prodigy School in Westerly and he got them a warrant connected to the school. Dutch is definitely not okay with kids and she and Turin both think that it’s weird that Khlyen was contacting a school. They go to get Johnny and make a stop to see Pree. People are doing a lot of partying in Westerly and D’Avin gets information from a girl there. Johnny left a message for Dutch because he’s trying to find Pawter, the issue is when he finds her he learns she’s a captive. Pawter is arm wrestling for her freedom and totally kicks butt. She used a nerve pinch she learned in medical school. Once Big Borna, the woman she beat at arm wrestling, hears Pawter is a doctor she wants to set her up with one of her boys. A huge fight breaks out and Johnny works to manipulate the situation and get them out of the bar.

Dutch and D’Avin are working on the warrant and while she’s worried about Johnny, D’Avin tells her that they have to let him do what he needs to do. Johnny has to find Pawter again, she got out before he did, and she says she needs to tell people what is happening with The Company and Westerly. Johnny tells her that she can hide out on Lucy for a bit. D’Avin and Dutch find the boy on their warrant, Jake. He wants to go to school, but his dad doesn’t want him to leave. He says that his older son went to Prodigy three years ago and he hasn’t heard from him since. They picked up a few more kids and are transporting them on Lucy. D’Avin has a heart to heart with Jake about how brothers always have each others’ backs. When Johnny goes to talk to Dutch, she asks how long Pawter will be there and he points out he didn’t mind when she brought Alvis in. She says fine, but that he has to keep an eye on her. Johnny is excited to get the kids to the school, but it’s all very weird. There’s no one there and while the electronic welcome message turns on, suddenly an alarm goes off. We see the weird box from the start of the episode, it’s a pod, and all the pods are empty. Johnny finds blood on one of the walls, but before they can leave Delle Seyah Kendry sets Prodigy into lock down and Lucy is stuck.

She insists upon seeing the trio’s warrant and Delle Seyah reveals that the children should still be asleep inside the pods. Apparently this is how classes work. Malta Chambers was the class guardian and was fully vetted. The video of the classroom is missing, but Delle Seyah says no one could have gotten in. She insists that Dutch tell her why she’s here because she knows that she wouldn’t act as a bus driver for no reason. Seyah’s guard wishes he was a Killjoy and while geeking out to D’Avin he reveals that the kids are missing. Jake immediately splits to go find his brother and D’Avin leaves to go find him. Pawter and Johnny are sciencing it up to try and figure out what happened to the kids. When they open them, Pawter says that these pods aren’t normal. Apparently based on the tech the pods were neurofeeding the kids. D’Avin finds Jake and starts talking to him. He asks why he brought rocks and they bond over their jerky fathers and being Novas. D’Avin sees a woman and Delle Seyah sends her man after her, it’s Chambers. Dutch doesn’t trust this decision and tells D’Avin that the kids are unguarded. Delle Seyah’s guard chases after Chambers, who after saying she knows what they did to the children disappears. He then gets electrocuted before he can catch her. The kids are alright, but they’ve lost all the cameras. Pawter is scanning the pods and inside finds goo, yes goo. When she examines it more closely she reveals that the stuff in the pods is the kids. Holy pod people, the pods reduced those poor kids into sludge.

Delle Seyah refuses to let them leave until they figure out what is going on. Chambers appears on the videos and she announces that Delle Seyah must be brought to justice for her crimes. When she tries to leave Dutch shoots her in the leg to stop her and says that she knows that the reason they can’t call for help is because no one knows what Delle Seyah is doing at Prodigy. D’Avin tells Jake that his brother was asleep the entire time, though what we saw at the start of the episode begs to differ, and while Jake is happy to hear his brother wasn’t scared, he doesn’t want to go home. At Prodigy Delle Seyah and Dutch are talking and she reveals that she and Khlyen were on a talking schedule. As they talk Lucy reveals that Khlyen’s transmission overloaded the system and caused it to be redirected to the classroom where all the children were. Chambers appears, but when Dutch tries to confront her she disappears, it turns out she’s being projected as a hologram through the cameras in Prodigy. When Dutch tries to contact D’Avin the coms glitch and Lucy says that she is being hacked by Prodigy’s system. The kids suddenly start leaving Lucy and when D’Avin catches up with them they say that the announcement, which he never heard, said to meet in the airlock. When they get there a machine rolls up and shocks D’Avin. In the school Johnny runs to grab Pawter and when he tells her that Chambers in doing something she says that’s impossible. She was liquefied with the kids, but it turns out not all of the kids died. Then we see Jake’s brother Olan grabbing his brother.

Johnny and Pawter find D’Avin and try to wake him up, which gets Johnny put in a headlock. In Prodigy Olan is removing life support from the building and Dutch tells her she hates her. Dutch sort of politely orders Johnny to get into Lucy and tell Olan he’s grounded. The kids are pretty impressed by what’s going on, even if it annoys Johnny. Lucy is getting very sassy with Olan, who is trying to hack her. Jake tells Olan to turn the life support back on, but he refuses. As he’s talking he suddenly has a flashback, which looks like some of the stuff D’Avin saw while at Arkyn. Olan tells Jake that it’s just the two of them now, but his brother doesn’t look okay. Dutch and Delle Seyah are trying to get to the override and she says they are going to play two lies and a truth. Dutch doesn’t care, but Delle Seyah keeps talking. She says that she drinks the blood of the innocent, that she loves Dutch’s hair, and that the Prodigy program was a seed bank for Qreshi culture. Dutch asks why, but Delle Seyah says it’s based on Khlyen’s message. Jake appears outside of Lucy and tells Johnny what Olan is doing. He wants to help the Killjoys. D’Avin and Pawter are putting the kids in the pods so that they’ll be okay and while doing that D’Avin realizes that Klhyen’s transmission is inside Olan. When Johnny confronts the boy he says that if they don’t let him leave he will create a surge in Lucy and kill all of them.

Johnny says that he believes that the guard’s death was an accident, but he doesn’t understand why he hurt Chambers. Olan says he woke up in the pod and it felt like his brain was on fire and that he pushed Chambers off of him. He thought she killed all of his classmates and that she was trying to kill him. Johnny tells him that the pods killed the other students by accident and that he thinks Chambers was trying to pull him out of his pod. D’Avin offers Pawter the only available pod, but neither one of them takes it. Dutch carries Delle Seyah to the room with the life support system and when she asks her how to turn it on Delle Seyah kisses her. Dutch is confused, but she just keeps saying biometrics and Dutch runs to the system and breathes into it. Kissing Dutch helped pass her genetic material so that they could trigger the biological lock. Johnny talks Olan down by using the older brother guilt card, which includes a hologram of Jake. D’Avin congratulates him on keeping them from being blown up and also teases him about liking Pawter. Even though Johnny insists that Lucy is his girl D’Avin totally disagrees. Delle Seyah wants Olan back so she can get the information out of his brain, but Dutch insists that she keep the boy. Delle Seyah relinquishes the boy, but Dutch has to share what Olan reveals about the message from Khlyen. The Killjoys bring Olan and Jake to Leith to be with Alvis at the monastery. He will help Olan deal with the stuff in his brain while he also tries to decode the message he found in the cave. Suddenly we see Fancy Lee waking Khlyen up from cryosleep and killing everyone in their way. Khlyen tells him to head the home planet of the Jaqobis because he wants to learn how D’Avin has immunity.

Just what is The Company up to and just what is Khlyen involved in? Seriously everything awful happening in The Quad seems to be connected to them somehow. Also that kiss, hmm Delle Seyah and Dutch, I mean they do have that tension between them. Share your Killjoys thoughts with us in the comments or on Twitter, @thenerdygirlexp.
