We all need someone to lean on, particularly in these trying times. Fortunately, for the very talented Whitaker sisters, they have each other.
The teens performed a variety of songs as special musical guests at Triangle Vegfest held today in Durham, North Carolina. The monthly market offers vendors selling merchandise as well as championing the various benefits of a vegan lifestyle.
Destiny Whitaker took to the stage first to sing several pieces. While the room’s acoustics weren’t the best, that did little to dampen the powerful vocals of this impressive performer. Her musical styling is confident. Her interpretation of the lyrics demonstrate a quiet confidence, maturity and stage presence that speaks to a more seasoned singer. Yet, Destiny Whitaker is only fifteen which is even more amazing. She is a young woman whose talent future audiences will want to take note.
Equally impressive is the skill demonstrated by younger sister Rayven who also joined Destiny on stage for a few numbers. There was no sibling rival or competitiveness in which to speak. Rather, the Whitaker sisters vocal ranges perfectly complement each other. There is an accessibility and connection with the audience Destiny and Rayven have that is beautifully instinctual.
Destiny Whitaker will be performing at WishCon in November. If today is any indication, I can’t help but think to myself that despite the violence and sorrow prevalent in the news, audiences can retreat (at least for a short period of time) to the wonderful world the Whitakers provide through the gift of song.
