It’s summer and in addition to weekends spent at the beach and other outdoor activities, it’s also the time that many of us use to catch up on our television viewing by watching those shows we might have missed during the year or picking up new ones via online media services like Netflix and Hulu.

There are times when some of us choose to watch a show based on word-of-mouth recommendation or media buzz.  It may be a television series that we would have never considered otherwise.  If there’s one show that we should be watching this summer, it’s The CW’s My Last Days.

My Last Days is a three night documentary series hosted by Jane The Virgin’s Justin Baldoni.  The series focuses on the strength and fortitude of people with terminal illnesses as they share how they spend their last days.  It premieres tonight at 9/8c on The CW.  One of the stories highlighted in the episode is that of  19-year-old Claire Wineland, who is battling cystic fibrosis. Her life may be a struggle but she is facing it with courage and determination. A story like Claire’s should make us all think how precious life is and value every moment.

These platitudes are easy to say for someone not in Claire’s situation, I know. And although I’ve made a vowed to be grateful for every blessing in my life (even saying a gratitude prayer before going to bed every night), I often let daily problems overwhelm my thoughts. Watching My Last Days will be an important reminder to appreciate everything in my life, good and bad.  That’s what life is, a sequence of events rolled up into the foundation of our existence. We don’t know what will happen until it does.  Following the example of Claire and the others whose stories will be showcased on My Last Days may be a character defining moment in our own lives.
