Interview with @scottjkyle1 From @Outlander_STARZ Season Two via @erinwise82

Outlander has been captivating audiences for two seasons now. It is a fascinating depiction of Diana Gabaldon’s best selling books. A daring story built along some of the history of Scotland.

I have been a fan of this show since the beginning. True story, it’s one of the main reasons I have Starz. What I love about this show is the history and the relationships, all of the relationships. After the Season One finale, I was desperately awaiting Season Two. The Season Two cast blew my mind with how well they dove into this project. I found myself falling in love with every single of them.
One of my favorites was Ross. I adored his and Kincaid’s friendship. Talk about friendship goals. When they made the pact with each other, I truly felt it. There wasn’t a doubt in my mind that these friends would give up their life for one another. I knew that if something happened to one of them, the other would 100% keep his end of the pact.  When Ross lost Kincaid, I held my breath. The look on his face said it all. I was completely heartbroken for him. When Ross and Rupert sang their drunken song together saying goodbye to their friends, I cried. These two guys touched my heart.

I was over-the-moon getting the opportunity to interview Scott Kyle, who played Ross. His character will always be one of my favorites. I will never forget the value of friendship Ross and Kincaid taught me.

How did you get into acting? Was it something you always wanted to do?

I’ve always enjoyed storytelling but it was my wife who gave me the push to go to college and study acting.

(I just want to pause right here and take a moment to thank his incredible wife for pushing him towards acting. We are truly blessed to have him as an actor. Not every actor who comes across our screens, truly makes us feel what they are portraying as he does.)

Being a Scottish actor, were you excited to be a part of a show depicting Scottish history?

Absolutely, I missed out on Braveheart and this role was my shot at being part of the re-telling of Scottish history. Very proud of my part and my involvement in the show.

Your character Ross, lost his best friend Kincaid, the scenes were pretty emotional, how did you prepare for them?

It was made easier by the fact that we filmed my scenes in chronological order, so we had filmed us in battle and the death of Kincaid before I had to carry him in.

What would you say was the hardest of part of filming on the Outlander set?

Trying to stay out of the way when your not needed, there are a lot of people on the set and most have bigger parts/jobs than me so I was very conscious to leave them the time and space to prepare.

What is your best memory from the set?

I loved working with young Roman, who plays Wee Fergus, I had a lot of fun doing the shinty scenes etc. He is a talented young man and I have high hopes for him in the future.

If you had the chance to pass through time through stones, would you and if so, what time period?

I don’t know, I really like living now so I don’t think I’d want to swap, but if it was a day trip I’d maybe make it 1930s to see the world that my Gran Wee Sadie grew up in. I love her stories so it would be great to see them come to life.

You played a real life Corporal Stu Pearson in Kilo Bravo Two/Kajaki. What was it like to play a real life soldier who was trapped in a minefield with his unit?

It was the toughest role I’ve ever played with the most pressure attached to it. Playing a real person who is going to be watching your portrayal with his friends and family was very scary. But afterwards Stu gave me 99.9% and said I would have literally had to have been there to get 100%.

Was it hard in both Outlander and Kilo Bravo Two/Kajaki, to depict events that were so terrifyingly real/actually happened ?

Yes but for very different reasons, in Kilo Bravo Two/Kajaki our responsibility was to the paratrooper regiment, the guys involved in the incident and their family’s. In Outlander, we had a big responsibility to the people of Scotland, the readers of Diana’s books, fans of the show and the history books. I hope we did them all proud.

What does life after Outlander hold for you? Are you currently working on projects that you can share with us and our readers?

Nothing as big as Outlander but I am doing a short film with Foghorn Films playing a car mechanic and Regal Animation have asked me to voice the lead character in one of their new animations.

Can you tell us about the Bathgate Regal Theatre and your role as manager?

The theatre is what I do most of the year and I’m very passionate about it. I have a big responsibility to the local community to try and develop opportunities for other emerging artists and it’s something that I want to achieve. I’m fortunate enough that there are people who gave me a chance to act and perform and I am trying to do the same for others in the community.

It was great getting to know Mr. Kyle better and what it was like playing in Outlander. I will keep an eye on his career and see how far it takes him, which I believe will be very very far. Best of Luck!
