#GreysAnatomy Undo Season Premiere Recap via @stacyamiller85 @7JustinChambers @GreysABC @GreysAnatomy

“Undo” is the episode title of the Season 13 Premiere of Grey’s Anatomy and it is clearly appropriate as Dr. Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) and Dr. Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) discover that there is no way to undo the damage from a misunderstanding and a fit of anger that lands Dr. Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) in Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital in serious condition after the beating he suffers at the hands of Dr. Karev.

The episode picks up where the Season Finale left off, at the wedding reception of Owen and Amelia (Kevin McKidd, Caterina Scorscone).  While the guests are dancing, Dr. DeLuca is being rushed by ambulance to Grey Sloan where he will experience life on the other side of the emergency room as a patient.  Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) gets the call and she and Maggie (Kelly McCreary) leave the wedding.

The police are at the hospital investigating DeLuca’s beating.  Alex tells Meredith the truth, he is the one who assaulted DeLuca but as he is “her person,” Meredith covers for him and tells Alex that if anyone asks him what happened to his hand to tell them that he slipped and fell in the rain. But Ben Warren doesn’t buy the story when he catches a glimpse of Alex’s hand.  He urges him to go to the police before the truth comes out.

Meanwhile, Dr. Webber (James Pickens Jr.) is offering comfort to Jo, who is very upset by what happened. Webber asks Jo whether DeLuca hurt her and she insists that he didn’t but leaves out the part about Alex finding them together on the bed and assuming the worst, which led to the altercation.

The doctors work on DeLuca, whose face is a bloody and bruised pulp. Alex asks Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) to be called in to repair the damage.

Catherine Avery (Debbie Allen) is holding her new granddaughter and is pleased when April (Sarah Drew) tells her that she and Jackson decided to give the baby a strong name. Mrs. Avery wrongly assumes that the name will be ‘Catherine’ after her.  “There’s only one Catherine,” April says, telling her that their daughter’s name is Harriet.  Although Catherine is disappointed, she admits she likes the name. Harriet Avery does have a nice ring to it. “Who said her name was Avery?” asks April, surprising Catherine.

Alex is worried that DeLuca’s condition will worsen and also that the injured man will name him as his attacker when he is able to speak with the police.  But although she doesn’t condone what he did, Meredith stands by her friend telling Alex to stick to the story and even offering to take a look at DeLuca’s x-rays to assess his condition.

When Avery is called in to consult, Jackson suggests an ophthalmologist who is excellent in the field. But as time is of the essence to save DeLuca’s eye sight, he agrees to perform the needed surgery.

Even though they have broken up, Maggie still cares about DeLuca and decides that she will call his parents to let them know what happened. Maggie is interested in Riggs (Martin Henderson) but wants to be there for DeLuca by holding his hand to assure him he’s going to be okay.

Catherine Avery tries to convince April that the Avery name is an important one for Harriet to have as it will open doors for the baby as she gets older. But April insists that Kepner is just as important. Won’t April consider hyphenation? Catherine wonders. April tells her mother-in-law that her daughter’s full name will be Harriet Avery Kepner but reminds that Harriet is “My baby” and Jackson who enters the room is Catherine’s baby, meaning she’ll listen to what Catherine has to say but won’t tolerate interference when it comes to raising her child.

Alex is angry when he finally speaks with Jo and learns that she got drunk because she was upset with him.  Karev can’t believe that he asked her to marry him, he should have known better!

Later an upset Jo tells Stephanie Edwards (Jerrika Hinton) that she is leaving Grey Sloan and program.  Stephanie tells Meredith everything Jo tells her about what really happened. Meredith goes to Alex and tells him that he jumped to conclusions when he found Jo and DeLuca together.  From what Meredith learned from Edwards, Jo was upset, got drunk and DeLuca was just making sure she got home okay.  He was being a good guy and got beaten up for his trouble.

Jo visits DeLuca after his surgery.  He asks her whether she’s okay even though he is the one in the hospital bed.  Jo tries to make a joke to cheer him up when DeLuca asks how he looks and she response “Ugly.”  When a guilty Alex enters to apologize, a frightened DeLuca pushes the panic button.

A torn Meredith decides to go to Bailey and tells her that it was Alex who beat up DeLuca.  Bailey is shocked but follows protocol as chief and puts the hospital on lock down so Alex can’t leave the building.  She and Bailey find Alex, who turned himself into the police, being arrested for the assault of Dr. Andrew DeLuca.

Maggie is angry that Meredith lied to her and Bailey realizes that Ben knew when she makes eye contact with him as Alex is being led out of the building.  Later while they are in bed, Bailey hits Ben on the arm and asks him flat out whether he knew that Alex was the person who beat up DeLuca.  Ben honestly answers that he suspected but that was the kind of information you share with your wife, not the chief.  Remember, state and church.

Meredith visits Alex in his jail cell to show him that he’s still her friend and he has her support.  Alex doesn’t know if he’ll end up in prison but one thing he does know for certain is that he’ll never set foot in the hospital again.
