Being a book reviewer is like receiving an invitation to a multitude of parties where authors allow you to feast on the splendor of their imaginations. One can explore all genres then have the opportunity to share impressions with other readers. What a marvelous gift.

I am not a parent. I don’t have any children in my life. But I find myself enamored by the talent of children’s book authors who effectively perform that delicate waltz between educating and entertaining.

The Chocolate Monsters by Traci M. Sanders (with beautiful illustrations by Kristy Moore) is a delightful children’s book. Readers will meet brothers Tommy and Timmy, “the chocolate monsters” of this tale whose brotherly bond is strengthened as they discover chocolate syrup and proceed to decorate the house in this sweet and gooey substance. Monet they are not, but the youngsters are quite pleased by their artistic endeavors. Their mother is definitely not pleased, but she handles the situation with remarkable calm.

Sanders poetic ability is proven as she tells this story entirely in verse. I love poetry so I especially applaud Sanders’ skill in weaving a tale with rhythmic charm.

The Chocolate Monsters has no antagonist. It is a fun read that will be enjoyed by all, regardless of whether you have your own chocolate monsters at home. I highly recommend this book.
