In Memoriam: #RIPAgnesNixon Legendary Soap Opera Creator via @stacyamiller85

Agnes Nixon, the creator of soap operas All My ChildrenOne Life to Live and Loving has passed away September 28.  The sad news was confirmed by her ex son-in-law Davis Hiltbrand, a former Philadelphia Inquirer television critic. She was 88.

As a child growing up in the 1970s and 80s, I fondly recall watching All My Children and was always proud as a Philadelphia native that the setting for the fictional Pine Valley was in Pennsylvania. Her other soap, One Life to Live’s Llanview had a stand-in setting for the main line’s Ardmore area.capture-pngagnesnixon

Agnes Nixon, born December 10, 1927 in Chicago, was a pioneer in Daytime Television.  She began her career in daytime under another legend, Irna Phillips, the powerhouse behind Guiding Light, before creating her own legacy in soaps.  Nixon served as writer and executive producer of her shows.  All My Children is credited as being the first daytime drama on screen lesbian kiss as well as the first transgender story line.

Her contributions to daytime television is too numerous to name but I want to thank her for the many lives she touched by her talent.  From other writers, actors and viewers, Agnes Nixon will never be forgotten.
