As the resident comic book reviewer on The Nerdy Girl Express it probably comes as no surprise that one of my favorite things is comic books. This love of comics led me to check out Comic Book Men on AMC one day while doing one of my almost daily scrolls through Netflix. For the first time ever I’m actually caught up with the show’s most recent season and thought I’d share some of the reasons that I keep tuning in to this fun and nerdy series.
Each episode of Comic Book Men moves between Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash and the recording studio where Kevin Smith, Walt Flanagan, Mike Zapcic, Bryan Johnson, and Ming Chen are. In the store viewers get to see various comic books and nerdy pop culture themed items, not always comics, but those definitely dominate. You get to see the items and learn cool facts about the piece itself or the character it’s related too, think Antiques Roadshow, but more geeky. Not only do cool pieces of pop culture appear, but we also get to meet some great guest stars. Most recently my favorite was Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, but in a previous season I was super excited to see Nichelle Nichols.

One of my favorite parts of the series are the field trips that the men of the Stash go on. They’ve gone to a comic con to promote their comic, Cryptozoic Man, challenged part of the cast of Clerks in bowling, and even gone to a renaissance festival. This season in the first episode all the men took a trip to Baltimore so that Walt could cross something off of his bucket list. Seeing them at Geppi’s Entertainment Museum made me want to immediately plan a trip there, though I’m content to just look and not smell the comics. If you haven’t been watching this series and love comics and pop culture, you definitely need to check it out. Comic Book Men airs Sundays at 12 am on AMC. Okay, technically Monday morning, but you know what I mean.
