As Erica Kane on the now defunct ABC daytime drama All My Children, Susan Lucci created the ultimate soap opera diva.
When I began watching All My Children in 1975, I was immediately taken with the character of Erica Kane. Born into humble beginnings, Erica was determined to be successful. As a high fashion model, Erica reached super stardom. But La Kane (as she was called) didn’t stop there. She was smart and savvy which Erica used to launch herself into the business world. In her personal life, Erica Kane was married multiple times. She was a hopeless romantic who looked for love to make up for a bad relationship with an absentee father. But through it all, Erica adored her mother Mona. Susan played Erica Kane from 1970 to 2011 and won a Daytime Emmy Award for Best Actress in 1999.
In addition to All My Children, Lucci has numerous film and television credits, including a role on the night time soap Dallas in 1990-91. Susan also competed on Dancing with the Stars. Currently, Susan Lucci stars as Genevieve Delatour on Devious Maids.
As a fan of Susan Lucci for over 40 years, on this December 23 her birthday, I wish her continued success and happiness. And I thank her for her contributions to entertainment.
