I don’t know why I am so drawn to films regarding the military but I really am. I think it dates back to growing up watching reruns of MASH with my grandfather.
Though this movie was anything but comedic like the 4077.
I wish I would have seen this film in the theater…but there’s something nice about owning the DVD and being able to watch it any time I would like. This movie…this story was so powerful, so moving, so incredibly insane…it resonates with me. I mean, really resonates me with; I haven’t been able to get it out of my head since watching it.
Right or wrong, there are some messed up things that happen during war, on top of the fighting, and that’s putting it nicely…and this is the story of one of those events.
Starring Tye Sheridan, Jennifer Aniston, Alden Ehrenreich, Toni Collette, and Jason Patric, you’re brought into the Iraqi war…
Two soldiers, Bartle (Ehrenreich) and Murphy (Sheridan) meet and create a bond of a lifetime. Shortly before being deployed, Bartle makes some promises to Murphy’s mother that he intends on keeping; one being keep an eye on Murphy. Sticking together throughout the war, no one can understand why Bartle came home alone, Murphy being listed as Missing in Action, and Bartle’s not talking. Everyone wants answers, including Murph’s mother (Aniston), but before Bartle can tell his story, he must find himself once again. Being lost for so long, Bartle must come to terms with the past to move forward.
Before you watch this movie, make sure to have a whole box of tissues beside you. Be prepared because you’re going to see things you really thought you’d never see; things you never wanted to see; things that will shake you up. After watching, you get this sense of “damn, and this is what our soldiers see, deal with, go through”.
I remember right after I watched this, I was talking with a friend, they asked about this movie, I tried to explain it, and I couldn’t…it’s just something you must see.
