An Interview with iZombie Obsessed for the iZombie Obsessed

I had the great pleasure of being able to interview the lovely face behind iZombie Obsessed, Kirsten about what it’s like running a fan account and website. She is not only active on Twitter, @iZombieObsessed, but she has been guesting on all sorts of podcasts and Periscopes recently. She even got followed by Rose McIver this week, yes Liv herself is iZombie Obsessed too. Click the jump to learn more about one of the head zombies of the iZombie fandom.

What motivated you to create a fan account for iZombie?

My boyfriend was a big part of it. He runs a lot of large accounts and felt like it would be something I would enjoy. Once I watched iZombie I was hooked and I realized I needed to go for it.

How exciting is it to have so many followers?

It is very exciting! To have helped bring together so many people who share a common interest feels pretty great. It’s like having a giant iZombie family.

Your fans love how connected you are with them, how do you manage to connect so well with so many people?

I think part of what helps me keep up with it is because I am just as passionate about this show as all of my followers. It is really nice to have people to share that with. It is definitely challenging to keep track of everything, but I just make sure to keep checking in as much as I can.

How do you balance your real life with being so involved in the fandom?

Wait fandoms aren’t real life? Oh…dang I guess I missed that memo.

What do enjoy most about interacting with the fans?

The shared interest is such an amazing experience. Being able to react in real time over the episode and see how other people react as well is my favorite thing about it. I’m a chatty person and often want to gab about my shows to people.

Have you reached out to the show itself? Has there been any feedback from the cast or crew of iZombie?

I haven’t directly reached out the official iZombie gang. Except for Malcolm Goodwin who agreed to do an interview at some point. I know a handful of the group follow me which is pretty cool.

How did you go about setting up the weekly giveaways?

I berated random comic shop owners until one of them replied. Dreamland Comics was very eager to sponsor the giveaways and still are excited to participate.

I know you’ve done some podcasts recently, are you considering doing your own?

I’d be lying if I said I haven’t considered it. I do know running a podcast would be a large endeavor and I want to make sure I am prepared for it if and when it happens.

Are you considering ever doing your own merchandise?

If I can find the right person to help me design some t-shirts, I would love to get the ball rolling on that.

Are you into any other zombie franchises? If so, which ones?

I enjoyed the first season of Fear the Walking Dead and almost made an account for it but decided against it. The Walking Dead was good but I have recently lost interest in that. I’m definitely a zombie girl, I would say I have seen a ridiculous amount of zombie films.

Have you always been into zombies?

I definitely have. Since I was a kid I have enjoyed different supernatural shows and films. I think my zombie obsession began when I was a little girl and I used to watch my brothers play Resident Evil. Scared the crap out of me, but I loved it.

Why did you decide to start watching iZombie?

Rob Thomas was one of the biggest reasons for me. I was a huge Veronica Mars fan and was excited to have that void filled.

Favorite iZombie character?

Besides Lowell? Not sure why but something about him stuck with me. Not just because of his gorgeous cheekbones and dreamy accent. There was a sort of vulnerability and honesty behind his dynamic character.

It is challenging to pick an absolute favorite because they are all so amazing. I suppose I enjoy how Ravi keeps Liv grounded.

Favorite episode so far?

Dead Air is my favorite season one episode, and I think we all know why. It was steamy. So far I am obsessed with season two, it seems like every episode quickly becomes my new favorite.

Favorite thing about iZombie?

The way that Liv takes on a new person’s traits and skills every week. We never really know what to expect and it keeps us on the edge of our seats. I also love seeing a new brain meal every week for some disturbed reason.

What are some of your hobbies or favorite things to do outside of iZombie?

I enjoy writing a great deal. Playing with my cat. Listening to music. And also cooking.

I’d like to thank Kirsten again for letting us interview her and I really hope that someone contacts her about teaming up for merchandise. I’m just saying I would love an iZombie Obsessed t-shirt, hoody, coffee mug, etc. You can find Kirsten on Twitter, @iZombieObsessed, and on the website, izombieobsessed.com.
