Amy Poehler and Tina Fey’s newest comedy Sisters released this past weekend to Star Wars fan filled theaters. While most people are awakening the force I went to the movies to tickle my funny bone.
I didn’t go to the movie alone, but went with my siblings. I mean with a movie titled Sisters it seemed like the perfect movie to go to together. Poehler plays Maura, who learns that her parents are selling her childhood home and is tasked with telling her older sister, Kate, Tina Fey, and getting her to clean out their old things. When the sisters learn that the house has already been sold they decide to throw one final massive party reminiscent of their high school years. Crazy hi-jinks ensue and once the sisters meet the people who bought the house they go a little bit crazy.
The movie literally made me laugh out loud from the very beginning, not just me, but our entire theater was in stitches pretty much the entire movie. Fey and Poehler play off each other ridiculously well, watching them together is hysterical. There were people in this movie that I had no idea were involved, John Leguizamo showed up as a sort of stoner bro, Maya Rudolph was a mean girl character, and Bobby Moynihan was a goofball who made bad jokes. John Cena also makes an appearance as a drug dealer named Pazuzu. He was great in Trainwreck and he’s great in this movie too. The movie’s plot is more a vehicle for crazy comedic situations, which are just so great to watch that nothing else really matter.
If you liked Parks and Rec, 30 Rock, or any of the work Amy Poehler and Tina Fey have done you definitely need to see this movie. It’s a great comedy, though some of the humor does get a bit on the crude side. It’s still just hilarious to watch and is the perfect escape from the stresses of prepping for the holidays.

I love seeing movies about the relationship between sisters. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are comic genuises so anything they’re in would be comedic magic.
