The West family drama kept The Flash pumping more than the actually Meta Human in the episode “Fast Lane”.

This article contains spoilers so if you haven’t seen the episode “Fast Lane”, please do not continue reading.

I don’t know whether I was the only viewer who found the Meta Human in the episode, Tar Pit not as threatening as many of the other Meta Humans we’ve seen on the show.  So, I found myself more engrossed in the non-Meta Human drama of the West family.

Iris plays the big sister in full force this week, which allowed Candice Patton to get more screen time than usual, which is a good thing.  She was concerned that newly founded younger brother Wally would be hurt or worst if he continued his obsession with the dangerous sport that is drag racing.  In a short time, Candice Patton and Keiynan Lonsdale have developed a strong chemistry, making their sibling connection very believable.

It was a refreshing to see Iris focusing on her family.  She usually spends her time involved in whatever Barry is dealing with.  Candice Patton is a talented actress who I’d like to see showcased more.

The other character on The Flash who continues to dazzle is Harrison Wells.  Kudos to Tom Cavanagh.  Last season, Cavanagh played the villain.  He was Eobard Thawne, who was obsessed with revenge against The Flash. Now as the real Harrison Wells, he is just a father willing to do anything to ensure his daughter’s safe return.  But Wells experienced guilt over betraying Barry by stealing his speed.  When Iris is injured because Barry wasn’t fast enough to get to her in time, Harrison admits he stole The Flash’s speed and why.

Although Barry is at first furious, remembering shades of the old Harrison Wells, he later understands that Wells was acting as any of them would have to protect someone they love.  This revelation has added a new dynamic to the Barry/Wells relationship.

The lackluster Tar Pit was defeated and next week, it’s off to Earth 2.0 for answers to eliminate the Zoom problem once and for all.
