Finally back from its second hiatus in its second season, we get right back into the swing of things when Liv eats a horny librarian/erotic author’s brains.
This week’s criminal who done it was a fairly straight forward one where the victim was poisoned and it ended up being Clive’s favorite suspect-the spouse. There was a lot of in between though where we find out about the sexy stewardess, the jealous other librarian and a few other characters. The mystery wasn’t the big part of the episode though as it took a backseat to the other characters stories.

Major has a big freak out when he finds out that they (being Clive and Bozzio) have turned on Minor’s tracking device and it could lead right to him. Why he couldn’t say he found the dog in the park and took it home when no one claimed him is beyond me (although I’m sure Clive would have been more suspicious-there is still no other evidence linking Major to any crime). Instead he pulls a normal Major move and leaves Minor on a bus-because leaving him at a shelter is too hard I guess. This is all for naught though as the tracking device was on Minors ID and not implanted inside him. Major brushes off Ravi’s questions about Minor leaving with a quick, ‘I found a flyer and they already got him.’ I’m pretty sure Major is incapable of telling anyone the truth anymore.
Minor is soon forgotten by the police though as Clive and Bozzio close in on Blaine. They realize through Liv’s brother’s sketch and Blaine’s own phone records that he’s their guy. We even find out that DeBeers is his assumed name and why it is. It’s of course a joke because iZombie can’t help it and I love them for it. They even arrest him on an old outstanding warrant, but then Peyton comes back into the picture. She hands over the ‘get out of jail free’ card and I’m pretty sure Clive is much angrier at her now than he has ever been at G.R.R. Martin for not writing. This is after the fact we know Blaine and Peyton have become much closer. We’ll see if that has any unintended side effects later since Blaine may turn back into a zombie at any point.
Liv and Peyton talk about it later and Liv now realizes who Peytons star witness is in her case and spills the beans about what he really is, a homeless teenager murderer, a Lowell murderer (and yes you know I loved that they remembered to include him!), zombie business and made Liv into a zombie guy. Peyton is crushed to learn this about her new guy and Liv has to try and comfort her. While I do feel badly for Peyton (and actress Aly Michalka, plays it really well) I didn’t have that much sympathy. It’s not like she didn’t know Blaine was already a criminal. She just found out he’s a really awful one. That’s not that big of a shocker to find out the bad guy is even worse. Just saying.

Still this moves the plot along nicely. How will Peyton be with Blaine now that she knows the truth? Will it change how she does her case against Mr. Boss? Will Blaine turn on her? She should at least be looking out for that now. I wonder if Blaine isn’t planning on turning Peyton into a zombie at some point. She’s being very useful now as is, but isn’t that his MO to turn powerful/rich people into zombies so he can blackmail them and make lots of cash? It would make sense and Peyton better watch herself or she and Liv will be sharing lunches soon!
Blaine will also be on high alert now and that will definitely spell bad news for everyone within a hundred mile radius of him. Unless he is sidetracked by Mr. Boss, our favorite characters better watch out. I fear mightily for Bozzio.
Liv also has quite the plot arc in this episode. After Lowell and the debacle of the Major/Liv 2.0 relationship, I didn’t think she would be with anyone for awhile. That was wrong as we find out that Blaine sends his henchman, Drake, for what I’m not sure but he’s a known person in Ravi and Liv’s morgue. Ravi asks for more samples which he’s happy to give and he and Liv flirt around some. When Liv eats her erotica brains that flirtation goes way up and they end up going out on a date and almost doing to do. I liked that Drake does seem to be a nice guy and stopped when Liv said so. But is Drake really a nice guy?
That’s the point of the episode, do you really know someone? Almost everyone on the show has their secrets and I doubt Drake will be any different. Liv knows he works for Blaine. He mentions that he’s a bouncer. We know he’s also Blaine’s mole and works for Mr. Boss. If anything that will get him killed, probably. I never hold out much hope for Liv’s dating life (Looowwweeellll *ugly crying*). At least he’s a zombie as well, so they can have an honest relationship and not be weirded out by each other.
I hope Liv helps Drake out soon and starts getting him brains from the morgue. That will cut his reliance on Blaine a lot and he may be able to get out of some of that trouble. I still think when things finally go down it will be Drake trying to protect Liv though. The episode ends with Liv looking in on Drake who is in her bed with a concerned look on her face. We’ll have to wait and see to find out about Drake. Come on man, live through the season!
Ravi didn’t play much of a role in this episode and I thought that was a shame. I hope we get some decent storylines with him included soon. While I enjoy him in his Easter egg Liv Moore grave digging outfit, I want more than a quick conversation or two with Liv in the morgue and a quick conversation with Major. Give us more Ravi.
