As a kid of the 1970s before online streaming and downloads, I enjoyed listening to records.  My favorites were Classic Rock and Easy Listening.  And one of my favorite songs was The Carpenters “Close To You” sung by the late Karen Carpenter.

Jane the Virgin took my heart back to a warm place when Xo sang “Close To You.”  But what made this rendition extra magical was that Andrea Navedo, who plays Xo, sang the song entirely in Spanish.

Navedo has a beautiful voice and her sweet rendition did the song justice.  Karen Carpenter most assuredly was smiling down from Heaven.  I have been waiting to hear more of the talented Andrea Navedo as Xo singing on the show, and thank you Jane the Virgin for making it well worth the wait.  Muy Bien, Andrea!

Xo was already my favorite Jane the Virgin character but now, even more so.  When you hear a song that takes you back to the happier days of your youth and then, when that song is sung in a new way that increases your love for it, there are no words to express the feeling you get. My heart is swelling with emotion.

If Andrea Navedo’s version of “Close To You” ever became available for online download, I’d be the first to purchase.
