Are we born with a cruel streak or are we a victim of circumstances?  That’s the question I must ask myself when I think of Wentworth’s Brayden Holt.

Brayden grew up in a violent crime family and had a front row seat to murder after witnessing his mother, Jacs kill a man when he was a child.

Years later, as a man Brayden would commit his own murder by overdosing Bea Smith’s daughter Debbie with heroin . Did Brayden always have  murderous traits inside him or was it because he saw murder as a child?

I can’t say for certain as I am not a psychologist whether behavior is inherited. The issue of nature vs nurture has been debated for decades.  I believe in the case of Brayden Holt, it is a chance that he was a victim of his upbringing. I remember how he didn’t want to hurt Debbie when his mother Jacs ordered him to kill her. He even admitted to her mother Bea that he had loved Debbie.  I believe Brayden could have grown up with decent values had he been exposed to it. But of course, we will never know as he was a victim of murder himself at the hands of Bea Smith.
