Last night I finished the Netflix original series Jessica Jones with fellow Nerdy Girl Express writers, Erica and Jon. We have been live tweeting the series together for a few weeks and decided that we would finish up the series in a three episode binge. I wanted to share some of my thoughts and theories about the show now that I’ve finished it.
During our live tweet last night, you can find all of us on Twitter and I’ll share all of our handles at the end of this article, we decided we would add some extra fun and play a drinking game. Now I like alcohol as much as the next person, but we might have picked some very dangerous rules. We had to drink any time a character said Kilgrave, Jessica rolled her eyes or was sarcastic, and any time something bad happened. I will admit right now to the world that I was definitely feeling the cheap wine I was drinking before we even made it to the last episode. If you decide to do a rewatch with a drinking game I suggest cutting one of those rules, we stopped using the Kilgrave one about halfway through.

I absolutely loved this series, Jessica is an amazing character and I am definitely excited to see the next season of the show. It’ll be a while, but I have high hopes that it will be ridiculously awesome. Jessica’s character was so much more complex than the average female character that appears in superhero themed shows and movies. She not only had super strength, but she was dealing with an intense number of traumatic experiences that made her into a character that was so much more complex than your average hero/primary superhero character. The other characters we met along the way were also fantastic. Not only were they well developed, but they had flaws and backstories that made them more than just throwaway background characters or, in the case of Kilgrave, your typical villain.

The writing was amazing, and while I might think Kilgrave is intensely evil I did actually feel sorry for him at one point. His backstory was actually exceptionally sad, which I was totally not expecting. Trish was not only adorable, but we learned that she has had to deal with some terrible things because of her mom-ager, and the amazing Luke Cage appeared and stole my heart. I am really looking forward to his solo series, I want to know as much as I can about him. The cameo of Rosario Dawson, Claire the nurse from Daredevil, was also a nice touch. I just loved this series so much and I honestly can’t wait for the next season. If Netflix wants to drop it early that would be great, just saying.

I could gush about this series and how great it is forever, but that would make for a very long article, so I’m going to tie it up with a theory that Jon, Erica, and I were discussing when we finished it. Now if you haven’t seen the series this part is super spoilery so you might want to stop reading now if you are planning on watching it at some point. Seriously stop now if you don’t want to know the big thing that happens when the show ends. Okay, now that you’ve been warned, we don’t think that Kilgrave is actually dead. I know, I know we saw Jessica snap his neck, but his powers had been increased so I think it’s possible that he just made Jessica think she killed him. None of us have read the comics, but Jon says that he is a regular character there, which leads us to believe he isn’t truly gone. Even if he is dead, I think Jessica will still have to deal with him. He was in her head for so long that I don’t think he’ll just go away.
