#Wentworth Prisoners – Prison vs Parole via @stacyamiller85 @Wentworth

The prisoners at Wentworth Correctional are serving sentences for various crimes and are awaiting parole. All except Bea Smith who was sentenced to life without parole.  If they are granted the coveted freedom, can they handle life again on the outside or is it easier for them to remain locked up?

This article contains spoilers so if you haven’t seen Wentworth, please do not continue reading.

When first sentenced to prison at Wentworth, the female prisoner may feel it’s the end of her life.  After all, she is locked up and away from her loved ones facing many years before she experiences freedom again.  But ironically over time, several of these women came to view Wentworth as more of a home than the one they left on the outside.

Take for example Liz Birdsworth.  When Liz was first released on parole, she tried to reconnect with the family she left behind. download (3)

But Liz found it more difficult than she thought it would be to reestablish that bond.  Additionally, the halfway house in which she was assigned seemed to be no better than her prison cell.  And definitely not safer as a male prisoner robbed her.

Kim Chang didn’t fare any better on the inside.  Though truth be told, she missed Franky Doyle too much to be able to function alone in the real world without her.

Now, Franky Doyle has been paroled.  Will she do better as a free woman than a prisoner? It remains to be seen as Franky does have a knack for messing things up.  Hopefully the support of Bridget Westfall will keep her grounded so she would do anything that will land her back inside Wentworth Correctional.

I believe these women were their own saboteurs. Perhaps deep down, they feared returning back into society.
