If you haven’t watched my YouTube channel you probably don’t know that I’m a fan of the Discovery Family show, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. This weekend the sixth season premiered with a two parter all about the brand new bouncing baby and Twilight’s new pupil Starlight learning about friendship.

Before I get to recapping I thought I’d share a bit of some MLP background stuff about myself. My filming space, it’s really just my bedroom, has a small table devoted to my mini My Little Pony collection. I used to buy MLP blind bags and I kept buying until I had the Mane Six and a bunch of additional ponies I really wanted. My favorite of the set is Minuette, a blue and sparkly pony with the same cutie mark as Dr. Hooves, and the other sneaky Whovian ponies. She’s like a Time Lady pony, what’s not to like. Beyond that I have a Funko Pop of Dr. Hooves and I have a stuffed alicorn version of Twilight Sparkle, my favorite of the Mane Six.

Now to the episode recap. Twilight is working really hard to decide what Starlight’s first friendship lesson should be, which because it’s Twilight, is a lot more research intensive than Starlight was expecting. There’s paper everywhere, but when the two get to talking Twilight decides that her new pupil’s first lesson should be fixing her friendship with her childhood friend Sunburst. He lives in the Crystal Empire, which is where the Mane Six, Spike, and Starlight are already heading because of the crystalling. You see because Cadence and Shining Armor have had their baby, there is a special ceremony that has to take place within the Crystal Empire. It’s a huge deal and everyone is super excited, and when they meet the baby everything gets even more exciting.

The baby is an alicorn, which is a huge deal because alicorns aren’t normally born, but created through acts of princess level valor and strength. Baby alicorn though can’t control her magic and accidentally breaks the crystal heart. Yep, goes from a happy day to apocalypse craziness. A snow storm appears and threatens to destroy the Crystal Empire. Applejack, Rainbow Dash, and Fluttershy try to get everyone to evacuate, but only when Shining Armor announces Cadence insists they leave does everyone head for the hills, well the train station. Twilight and Cadence are hard at work trying to fix the heart, with Princesses Celestia and Luna working to hold back the storm.

After the spell Twilight thinks can fix the heart doesn’t work Starlight thinks she knows who can help. She runs to Sunburst and when the two of them reveal their big secrets, they realize they can rebuild their friendship because they finally told each other the truth. Sunburst, though not a powerful wizard knows so much about magic that he has the perfect plan to save the day. He even gets to be the baby’s crystaller, which is a huge deal. Using his plan the day is saved and the baby’s powers are handled. Not only does Starlight excel at her first friendship lesson, but the baby gets a name. To mark the occasion Cadence and Shining Armor name her Flurry Heart.
