@Outlander_STARZ Has Some Explaining To Do via @erinwise82

After all these months of waiting and we come back to our lovely Claire stumbling around her present time??  Sad, alone, and back with Frank, most of the first episode back had taken place in the 1940’s. This season is going to be a crazy ride as we dive into why in the hell is Claire back in her time and what the hell happened to Jaime. BTW love the new spin on the opening titles.

Claire came back to the present with big secrets, that Frank was not quite prepared for. She told him all about her adventures in the past, at first I really didn’t think he was going to believe her, however, he had had the clothes she arrived in examined and it was determined they were authentic, though he was still spinning from all the information. Now, we didn’t get to hear all the tale (just leaving us hanging with info on Jaime), but I’m most positive we will hear the tale over the course of the season. Her second secret, she’s pregnant. Now here’s where I had issues, Frank is so delighted to hear she’s pregnant, he never once thinks about the fact she’s been gone for TWO years, she literally has to tell him it’s not his child before it sinks in. This is where we see the temper of “Black Jack” come through present day Frank.

They start us off with Claire back in Scotland, back at Craigh na Dun. She’s upset, she’s searching for something in the grass and finds a ring. She begins screaming, anger and sad. The great Claire voice-over says “He was gone. They were all gone. The world I’d left only moments ago was now dust”. (What happened, where’s Jaime, someone better start explaining, real quick.) Claire flags down a motorist, looking shocked she’s seeing a car again. She asks what year it was, to which he replied 1948. She also asked who won the Battle of Culloden and nearly comes undone with his answer.

And the moment that we’ve all kinda been dreading, Claire’s reunion with Frank as he arrives back in Inverness to retrieve her.

Frank is told by the doctor that Claire is physically ok but emotionally, yea not so much. He is completely ecstatic to see her; she’s cautious and weird with him. We understand why, though he doesn’t he tries to be understanding. Frank takes her back to Rev. Wakefield’s house, (first season), to try to gather some sort of understanding of what’s happened to his wife over the past two years. Claire dives into the Revs extensive library of Scottish history, trying to find some sort of mention of her beloved Jaime. Unfortunately, she finds nothing.

Claire has been talking with Mrs. Graham about her adventure, as Mrs. Graham was the one who told her about the tale of the rocks in the first season and believes 100% of what Claire has told her about her trip through time. Frank doesn’t know what to think. The clothes she was found in were proven to be extremely old and authentic. he can’t understand where she has gotten the clothes from and neither can the Reverend.

Claire finally decides to tell Frank the truth about all that has happened to her. She calls him into her room with a bottle of Scottish whiskey, asks him not to ask her anything until she is finished with her tale. The talk takes all night. When she is finished, he tells her he doesn’t care about everything that happened while she was gone. He’s so happy she has returned it has trumped any ill feelings, he wants her, his wife back. She reminds him that she was in love with another man and married him. Frank’s best line of the night “a point you’ve made several times”. He makes it clear it doesn’t get her feelings for Jaime, but can accept them. Claire is not thrilled by Frank being so understanding, she blurts out “I’m pregnant”. Franks is overjoyed until the Claire points out the obvious, it’s a Fraser, not a Randall. We watch Frank  get his heart ripped out as he balls his fists, cries and screams, then takes off and destroys everything inside a shed.

After destroying the shed, Frank reveals to the Reverend that he is sterile and there won’t be any children in his future if he and Claire don’t stay together, but isn’t sure he can raise another man’s child. The Reverend’s nephew pops his beautiful little self in, calling the Rev father, Wakefield explains to Frank why the child calls him father. Frank then realizes he just might be able to raise Claire’s baby as his own.

Frank offers a deal to Claire,  one they leave Scotland, Frank has been appointed a professor at Harvard, she agrees, the second thing, he will raise the child as his own, but she must quit searching for Jaime is historical records. She must leave the past behind. She mentions Jaime told her to forget about him and move on. She agrees to Frank’s deal and hands him her old old old clothes as she cries. She tries to take off her Fraser wedding ring, however, Frank stops her and tells her it’s ok, she can keep it til she’s ready. Frank burns the old clothes as Claire watches from a window. They arrive in America via airplane and as Claire looks around she has a somber look upon her face. Frank lends her a hand to take the last step off the plane.

BACK IN THE PAST, THANK THE SWEET SCOTTISH LORDS, FINALLY JAIME!!!

Jaime (oh how I’ve missed you) helps his Claire off the boat that has brought them to France (ya know where they left us on the season one finally). They talk and kiss, them two together, just so cute. Jaime is still messed up from the Randall um…beating….and rough time at sea. He still has those far off looks which shows he’s still haunted by “Black Jack”. Claire tries to take his mind off of all that by bringing up the idea of trying to change the Jacobite uprising. Her plan is to change the future and save the Scottish clans by messing up Bonnie Prince Charlie’s efforts in Paris to get money for the Jacobite army.

The Battle of Culloden happens in April 1746, but Claire doesn’t remember much of what happens leading up to the fight. Jaime is concerned of messing everything up when they don’t know enough; he’s also not happy about them having to lie to everyone, pretend they’re Jacobite supporters in order to get the information they need. But when can Jaime ever say no to Claire? He agrees and we now must wait to see what happens…
