How could a happy occasion like a bachelorette party cause a rift between Jane the Virgin‘s mother/daughter duo Xo and Jane Villanueva?
One of the difficulties when a mother and daughter aren’t too far separated by age is the question of crossing the line between being the parent and being a girlfriend. Unfortunately, for Xo Villanueva, too much drinking and partying at daughter Jane’s bachelorette party made her make a mistake that hurt her daughter.
For years, Jane has forgiven her mother when Xo’s error in judgement lead to a bad action. But when Xo was caught by Jane and Lila making out with the guy that Lila was interested in, Jane was furious. Xo offered apologies, but they weren’t enough for Jane who reminded her mother that she has been making the same apologies for years. Jane felt like she always has to be the control freak to counterbalance her mother’s impulsive and irresponsible nature.
Xo, on the other hand, knows she’s made mistakes but tries to do the best she can to be a good mother. She loves Jane more than anything and wants her daughter to be happy. Disappointing Jane is like a knife in Xo’s heart.
Being so used to seeing Gina Rodriguez and Andrea Navedo play the close and fun loving aspects of the mother and daughter dynamic, the scene where Jane expresses her anger at Xo was heartbreaking.
I hope that Jane will be able to forgive Xo.
