This week’s My Little Pony started with Twilight and Starlight setting the table. It’s an attempt at a friendship lesson and prep for a dinner that Princess Celestia will be joining them for to see how the lessons are going. Starlight has to bring a new friend to the dinner, but isn’t sure who to bring.
Starlight goes out and about to find someone to bring to the party, this leads to each of the remaining Mane Six helping her to look for someone. Pinkie Pie sees her first and introduces her to Mrs. Cake, Starlight uses magic to make a cake that looks super fancy. Mrs. Cake freaks out and thinks that such a fancy cake will put her out of business. After accidentally dropping the cake on her, Starlight meets Big Mac through Applejack. She thinks she can’t have a friend who doesn’t talk and uses magic to get him to talk more. This totally doesn’t go well and leads to a super chatting and unhappy Mac and a grumpy Applejack. Then Rarity offers to make her a new outfit, but it won’t be ready by the dinner, and she accidentally ruins a hat. Rainbow Dash says she should bring someone cool, but when she offers to introduce her to a Wonderbolt, Starlight has no idea who they are. Then she meets Angel at a picnic with Fluttershy, but doesn’t think she can take him to the dinner. Starlight then meets a pony while at a spa who also says that people judge her based on her previous actions. It turns out it’s Trixie.

Starlight brings Trixie to meet Twilight and things seem a bit tense between the Princess and the Great and Powerful Trixie. She’s apparently there to perform a brand new show, a humble and apologetic one. Twilight pulls Starlight aside and tells her that maybe she should find another friend. Starlight feels like her teacher doesn’t trust her, but Twilight relents and tells her that she’s sorry and that she can make her own friends. Trixie is setting up for her show and tells Starlight that she’d understand if she didn’t want to be her friend. The two share a secret, which involves Trixie saying that everything she did was because she was jealous of Twilight. The princess of friendship has been following her around to keep an eye on the two new friends, and even brought DJ Pon-3 as a suitable dinner friend. Starlight says this feels like a lack of trust and insists that she needs to make friends on her own. The two fight over Twilight’s level of trust in her and Starlight storms off. Trixie says that she’s never been able to perform the Moonshot Manticore Mouth Dive, which has only been performed by Hoofdini. She just can’t figure out how the trick works. Starlight offers to help by using actual magic to do the stage trick. The ponies vent a bit about Twilight’s seeming lack of trust in them, and Trixie wants to go through with the trick even if Starlight can’t be there.

Starlight winds up skipping the dinner to go to Trixie’s magic show, but doesn’t tell Twilight that she won’t be there. Twilight though had brought all three of the ponies she tried to have be friends with Starlight: Ditzy Doo/Muffins, DJ Pon-3, and Cranky Doodle. She goes looking for Starlight and finds her at Trixie’s show, where Trixie inadvertently says that she finally beat Twilight by getting Starlight to be her friend. Starlight runs off crying, feeling like she didn’t make a friend at all. Trixie tries to show that she isn’t hurt by Starlight leaving and opens her show by saying just how great her friend was who won’t be there to help her. Twilight goes to comfort Starlight and tells her that she really does think Trixie wants to be her friend. We then hear Trixie say to the sky that she would still love Starlight to help her and that if she still wants to be friends that they can be great and powerful together. The two make up and Twilight apologizes for what she said. It seems like everyone has made a new friend. Celestia though spent her entire night with Twilight’s random guests at a very odd dinner party.
