Actor and singer Gil McKinney has a timeless allure that harkens back to the bygone days of old Hollywood. There is a mystique, almost quiet presence that he commands both on screen and stage. Audiences can feel it.
The Texas native boasts an impressive collection of television credits in such acclaimed shows as ER and Friday Night Lights. He is Prince Eric on ABC’s Once Upon A Time. But to millions of fans of The CW’s long running show Supernatural, McKinney is Henry Winchester, the paternal grandfather of heroic brothers Sam and Dean Winchester (Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles).
When Supernatural fans first saw Henry Winchester in the Season 8 episode “As Time Goes By”, we learned that he was a member of The Men of Letters, an elusive organization that studied and compiled information on supernatural phenomenon. Henry proved to be a hero himself, sacrificing his life to help his grandsons defeat powerful, demonic Knight of Hell Abbadon (Alaina Huffman). Fortunately for Supernatural fans, McKinney returned to the show a season later (via flashback) in the episode “Mother’s Little Helper.”
McKinney has been a welcome presence on the Supernatural convention circuit as well. In addition to being a skilled actor, he is a gifted singer keeping audiences riveted by his stirring vocals. Through his singing, McKinney inspires an emotional connection with the audience. Again, this quiet presence, strength and sincerity makes him accessible to fans.
Further, McKinney is a compassionate man. He is a supporter of Attitudes in Reverse, a nonprofit organization that works tirelessly to end the stigma associated with anxiety and depression as well as to educate on good mental health. McKinney gives his celebrity, time and talent to advocate on behalf of Attitudes in Reverse.
As time goes by, we discover that Gil McKinney is a man of many talents.
