General Hospital’s Alexis and Julian are at a crossroads in their relationship where it seems unlikely that they will recover from events that lead to mistrust and resentment between the couple.

On General Hospital, Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) and Julian Jerome (William deVry) have a long romantic history dating back to when Alexis was a sixteen year old teenager who snuck out to a bar and met a charming college student (Julian). A night of passion in the back seat of his car resulted in an unplanned pregnancy. Alexis put the baby (Sam) up for adoption and went on with her life, going to college, then law school and becoming a prestigious and successful attorney.

Many years later, Alexis meets head of Wells Media, the charming Derek Wells and she feels an immediate attraction to him. That attraction turns to gratitude when Derek donates his bone marrow to save the life of Alexis’ grandson Danny. It is revealed that the reason Derek Wells’ bone marrow matched was because he was Sam’s father, making him the boy Alexis had slept with as a teenager. But that wasn’t the only shocking revelation about Derek Wells, who it turned out was really mobster Julian Jerome.

Alexis and Julian rekindled their youthful romance. But unfortunately, Julian’s ties to  the mob was a constant threat to their relationship. It was the reason they broke up with Alexis dating Ned and history repeating itself with Julian having a one night stand with Olivia leading to an unplanned pregnancy.

Alexis and Julian worked through their problems and found their way back to each other.

But the biggest problem that Alexis and Julian have always had between them was his mob ties. Every time Julian tried to get out, he was pulled back in.

Julian also had a turbulent past with Anna Devane as he was responsible for she and Duke losing their baby years ago. But Julian giving the order for Carlos Rivera to kill Duke Lavery started the domino effect putting Alexis and Julian’s marriage in jeopardy.

Alexis knew that her husband was no angel but she trusted him at his word that he had left the mob.  After all, Julian wouldn’t lie to her (so she thought).  She accepted Julian’s marriage proposal and even though their marriage got off to a rocky start with a gun man holding the church guests hostage and a shooting, Alexis was certain that the worst was behind them.

She was wrong.

When Carlos Rivera (who Port Charles believed was dead) was captured by Anna and Sonny and brought back to town to stand trial, he blackmailed Julian into helping get him get off or he would take District Attorney Paul Hornsby’s deal to turn state’s evidence and spill the beans on Julian.

Julian convinced Alexis to represent Carlos but when Rivera escaped from police custody and contacted Julian demanding money, Jerome had enough and killed Carlos, stabbing him with the antique letter opener Helena Cassadine had used to kill Alexis’ mother.

When Alexis put the pieces together and learned that her husband murdered Carlos Rivera, she was hurt and angry. Especially after learning he was still in the mob! This was an unimaginable betrayal. Alexis decided to turn Julian in (even though the decision pained her). She retained Diane Miller as her attorney and was planning to give the evidence of Julian’s bloody shirt to the police.  But as Alexis was retrieving the damaging piece of evidence, Julian caught her and burned it.

However, the police searched their home and found the bloody letter opener. It was tested and not only was Julian’s blood found on it but Alexis’ fingerprints as well. So, Alexis was arrested for Carlos Rivera’s murder!

But instead of confessing to save his wife, Julian insisted that she stand trial and be found not guilty.  This was the final straw for Alexis- her husband’s willingness to sacrifice her convinced her that their marriage was over.  He’d betrayed her and she could never trust him again.

Now, Julian is having hallucinations of Carlos with Rivera encouraging him to kill Alexis! What will he do?

Nancy Grahn and William deVry’s portrayals of Alexis and Julian have been riveting.  This is a couple that has endeared itself to millions of fans who have followed their journey. In a landscape when soap super couples are youthful, General Hospital had created a mature one.  Alexis and Julian became known as ‘Julexis’.  But now it looks like this couple will be torn apart forever.  Fans are naturally upset and worried.  The problems between Alexis and Julian have given the actors meaty material in which to sink their teeth into.  But it seems impossible that ‘Julexis’ will survive.  And if that happens, it will be the real tragedy.
