Are you looking for some amazing indie comics, but aren’t sure where to look? Have I got the perfect thing for you!
Make Mine Indie #1 from Alterna Comics provides tons of suggestions for great comics in a variety of genres and styles. I personally am a fan of horror comics and this anthology had plenty of titles that I am going to be checking out. Here are just a few of of the ones that struck my fancy.
Croak by Cody Andrew Sousa is about a group of friends who make their way into a forest and find themselves dealing with not so fictional frights. As they delve deeper they find themselves in their own personal hells, just trying to survive. I’m a sucker for cabin in the woods style drama. Yes, I know these kids aren’t on spring break, but forest frights are always great to see. The teaser for this comic sucked me in and I’m looking forward to checking it out in August. Unleash #1 is available now and the teaser for this comic is something terrifying to behold. Emmie, an assault survivor, wants to find a way to change the world and bring down swift justice on sexual predators. Instead of becoming a superhero herself she teams up with a frightening figure named The Rape Machine. Emmie and her partner are not people to be messed with in the teaser and I was getting a slight American Mary feel from this comic. I think it’s definitely worth checking out.

Drums Volume One also releases in August and sounds like a spooky and intriguing read. Martin Irons, an FBI agent, is investigating mysterious deaths at a Santaria ritual in Florida, when something extra strange happens. A massive storm rises and one of the victims returns as a zombie. I mean a murder investigation with zombies, sign me up! Another collected volume, Straightjacket Volume One, is available now and is a slightly more psychological horror. Alexandra Wagner has been living in mental institutions ever since she killed her younger brother. She insists that she is protecting the world from Feeders, but everyone thinks she’s insane. Even if Alexandra might be a little crazy, that doesn’t mean she’s wrong about her fight against the Feeders. When I read this description I totally thought Buffy, but with a way darker edge.

There are so many more comics in this anthology and if you are a comic fan you need to check out Make Mine Indie #1 from Alterna Comics right away. You definitely won’t be disappointed.
