Dutch goes to visit Johnny after his arrest at the hands of Jelco. While Johnny defensively gets a bit of an attitude with Dutch, she is noticeably upset. She doesn’t go off on him, but instead she messages Pawter to come get him out of his cell and leaves. He reveals to her that he is in love with Pawter, which would be fine if Dutch didn’t feel like he was letting down their team. While she is with Johnny, D’Avin and Turin are trying to nab a Six in Old Town. They are a bit outmatched, until D’Avin somehow manages to make the guy’s eyes explode. I thought green goo from the face during sex was bad, but this is a lot gooier.
D’Avin is cleaning up after and Dutch tells him that he needs to work on controlling his new strength, which he can’t do with just extra crunches. Pawter has gone to Johnny and demands that he be released. Jelco says it’s out of his hands, but Pawter goes off. She is not a woman to be trifled with, especially since she really could have your hands removed my dear Jelco. Dutch and D’Avin are discussing the team and she tells him that she and Johnny have decided that he will temporarily not be working with them until he is done with his mission with Pawter and she is done with her quest for Sixes. D’Avin has to choose who to work with and he says that he is going to stay with Dutch. Pawter and Johnny are in Old Town and she says that she thinks she knows why the wall has been put up. She thinks this has to do with a form of eugenics that will kill of the weak and old. She wants to test as much of Old Town as she can. Jelco is having a meeting with Seyah Kendry about Pawter and Johnny’s determination to learn what the wall is for. She says to show them, which prompts Jelco to ask if they have the authority to do this ahead of schedule. He might have concerns, but Seyah Kendry tells him to go ahead and activate the wall. Pawter won’t have time to run many tests it seems. Dutch and D’Avin go to see Alvis so that they can try and find out what Olan, the boy who had all of Khlyen’s transmission put in his head, knows. He just tried to kill his brother the night before and when Dutch mentions Aneela’s name he loses it. He rushes at Alvis and then begins carving something on the wall.

Olan covers the wall in symbols that match the symbols from the piece of skin Alvis found in the mines. He says that he recognizes Arkyn and plague, but doesn’t know what else it means. Olan then continues to say that there are rivers and that there were pools of green. In Old Town Johnny and Dutch are sciencing it up in the Royale, but while they thought they’d find poison, all they find are chemicals that won’t kill you right away. Pree sits down and after a debate about salty snacks, he reveals that while there’s no food in Old Town there are people trading. Pawter wonders if this mean the contaminants are in the food coming in from the outside. D’Avin and Alvis are having an interesting conversation on Lucy. He reveals his ability to control green goo and is hoping that Alvis can teach him how to control his power, especially since he just made a guy’s eyes blow up. The two don’t set up any training dates or really come to terms. Alvis mostly just meditates and asks if D’Avin wanted the guy’s eyes to blow up. They land on Arkyn and find another safe house. Dutch gets in, but this one is different. The lights suddenly go off and the box drills itself into the ground. She yells for it to stop, but they are so deep that Lucy can’t hear them.

The safe house has taken them to an area that Dutch thinks must have been central command. Johnny and Pawter are making their way through Old Town when they bump into Carl from the prison full of mummified corpses. He’s been using his company connections to get supplies into Old Town and while they might be more full of rat meat than he thought, they don’t have any contaminants in them like Pawter hoped. Carl does reveal that a big shipment is coming very soon. As D’Avin, Dutch, and Alvis investigate central command, the boys get flirty. Okay, not really flirty, but they are mildly insulting each other and being snarky, so I mean it’s kind of flirty. D’Avin finds a bunch of bodies hooked up to systems like the one used to pump him full of green goo, and while the bodies are warm, they are still definitely dead. He and Dutch then find a bunch of symbols and equations, but they aren’t sure what they mean. Dutch thinks that this is where they first started trying to refine the green goo. Alvis has disappeared, but they hear him talking to someone. It turns out that there is a monk locked in some kind of prison. The weird thing is that he is is still alive and kicking, even though this place is older than The Company. Dutch and Alvis realize that this monk must be part of the 12 monks sent to take on the devil, which makes him hundreds of years old. Dutch shoots the control panel to break down the wall and the monk is free. At the Royale Pree is crooning, but Johnny and Pawter leave the bar to go to her old office. While the room has apparently been used for sexing by a lot of sexers, Johnny is all business, until Pawter changes her clothes. After she slips into a shiny purple dress she tells him that she can be the damsel in distress and he can grab what they need from the shipment. The two start kissing and she apologizes for causing a rift between him and the rest of his team. Johnny is okay with it, but then Pawter says this is the first time she remembers ever feeling really good. After she realizes that a ton of terrible things have happened to her she laughs in a gallows humor way and then she and Johnny start kissing again. Pawter says that she loves him so much that she could die, which is never a good choice of words. On Arkyn the monk jumps at Dutch and she tells D’Avin and Alvis not to hurt him. She thinks that he was sent to take down Aneela, who was called the devil in the scarback legend.

The monk has run from them, but Dutch tries to reassure him by saying that she isn’t Aneela and that they need his help. He drops from the ceiling and jumps at Dutch. She’s trying to fight him off until D’Avin grabs the guy and says he can control him. He doesn’t want to blow the monk’s eyes up and tells Alvis to help him. The two take a bit of time to figure out what to do, but as he calms down Dutch knocks out the monk. In the Royale Pawter and Johnny are practicing her shooting skills by having her shoot things off Johnny’s head. They are interrupted, which is probably good for Johnny’s face, by the arrival of Arune, the other council member. If you didn’t know Arune is played by the magnificent Shamier Anderson, who plays Agent Dolls from Wynonna Earp. If you aren’t watching Wynonna Earp and you watch Killjoys you seriously need to get on that, just saying. Pawter excitedly hugs him and reveals that Johnny is her boyfriend, even though that’s a secret. She and Johnny both shush him very loudly. They are definitely acting weird and when Arune asks if they are high they say no, but that they do feel high. Oh, this explains why they feel so good, something is going on. Johnny and Pawter say that the rations are poisoned, but that they don’t have any proof. Jelco suddenly arrives and he totally knows whats going on with Pawter and Johnny. D’Avin is trying to control the monk and while Dutch is very worried that he is going to kill him, Alvis manages to get him calm. She insists Alvis tell the monk that she isn’t Aneela. When he doesn’t believe her she cuts her hand to prove she doesn’t heal. He wants to know who sent her and when she tells him Khlyen did, the monk says that Aneela called the man a different name, father.

Dutch sounds like she’s in shock and tells D’Avin that she has two people to kill now. First Aneela, but then Khlyen for never telling her that she looked exactly like his daughter. She wants to set fire to central command and get the heck out. The monk asks Dutch to kill him and while Alvis says that they can heal him, D’Avin says they can’t undo the torture done to him. Then that the monk gets to decide how much pain is too much pain and says that he’ll do it. Dutch says that she should because the other her did this. Before they can do anything Alvis performs last rights and then Dutch uses the dreadnought to stab the monk. At the Royale everyone is in trouble. Johnny and Pawter are super stoned, Jelco says he drugged all of Old Town, but he turned it up a bit recently. He’s fine because he’s wearing a special patch. Then as a test he shoots Arune, but Johnny and Pawter are too drugged up to help him. Jelco then puts the gun in Pawter’s hand and then starts kissing Pawter’s neck. Johnny is trying to fight it off, but he’s still doped up enough to not really have control over what he does. He and Pawter insist they are going to save Old Town, but they are sadly laughing. Jelco poses the two of them around the body and then takes a picture, which shows them having killed Arune. Before he leaves Jelco reveals Sayah Kendry is involved and then says that yes, the drugs are in the rations. Yeah, I wouldn’t believe a single thing he says.

Dutch is back on Lucy and tells D’Avin that Alvis is performing last rights on all the other monks. D’Avin offers to be there if she needs to talk to anyone, but she insists she’s fine. Then she goes on to ask what if she really is Aneela? D’Avin tells her that she had a childhood and that she will find Aneela. He then says he uploaded the tech images and they are apparently a breakdown of something just like the wall in Old Town. Now Dutch and D’Avin know exactly what the wall does, it shuts off the fear center in the brain and causes a rise in feelings of euphoria. When Dutch asks Lucy to contact Johnny she learns that he’s in Old Town. When she does try to contact him, Johnny throws the com away. He and Pawter are randomly wandering the streets. They find a man happily dying after jumping out of a window and then walk near the wall and kiss as they say that it is a beautiful day. This is remarkably not good indeed. With D’Avin and Dutch knowing what the wall does and that Johnny is there I am expecting an immediate drop in to rescue him. That might not be super easy, but Dutch and D’Avin will figure something out I’m sure. They might be mad at him, but they won’t leave him there like that.
