With back to back episodes of Dark Matter this week there’s a lot to recap. Here’s my second recap of the day for you. Quick note, I did have some issues with my ability to watch this specific episode. I may have missed a minute or two right at the very end, but for the most part this is still a full recap. Now let’s get back to what’s happening with the crew of the Raza.
The Raza is attacking a ship, but the ship is remarkably confused by the blinking that keeps happening. It doesn’t matter what they do because the Raza can do anything. Ryo hails them, yes, I said Rio and not Four, he has his memories back, which makes him Ryo. He arrives on the ship to speak with Drago, the general on this ship, about the war. Ryo informs him that he can defeat their enemy with the technology that the Raza has. If he wins the war he wants the throne that rightfully belongs to him. Drago swears to him, but the colonel refuses. As the man goes on about why he won’t swear his allegiance to Ryo, he beheads him. Back on the Raza Nyx asks Ryo how it went and he says well. She doesn’t see how he can believe them, but he insists that they will remain loyal because he offers them a better life. Nyx is upset that he didn’t tell her that he was getting his memories back, but he says that he couldn’t let her tell the rest of the crew. Ryo insists that his feelings for her are still there. Two finds Android in the kitchen having hot chocolate and while she insists that it is a tasting sample to help her plan meals for the crew, Two doesn’t entirely believe her. Android asks if Two is upset that she helped Ryo get his memories back. Two says she was surprised, but they are his memories and he should be allowed to have them if he wishes to. Android is worried that she made a mistake, but Two says that dealing with people isn’t like working with a system, you can’t know exactly what to do. Six finds Five hiding out lower in the ship and she doesn’t want to be around Four. Six says that he still has his new memories and that he still knows who they are. Five doesn’t think that will make much of a difference. Six then reveals to her that he knew about the deaths on the space station when he was his old self and that he didn’t do anything about it. Five says that she doesn’t think he would do that, but Six thinks that everything they’ve gone through together has made him a better person. Ryo is explaining to the others his plan to regain the throne. He insists his brother will step down and let him lead to help their people. In order to talk to him he plans to ambush him with the Ishida shuttle they took. Ryo arrives in his brothers ship and the Raza finds itself surrounded.

Ryo says that the Raza could still destroy all of their cruisers and when Hiro says he is going to take him back to Zyron, he says he will go. Only to take back his thrown though. Ryo approaches Hiro and says that if he wanted to kill him he would have opened fire on his crippled ship. He says he is here because he wants to save their home planet. Ryo begins explaining the blink drive and says that he will show them a demonstration. He hails the Raza and has it blink around the ship. Hiro says he never wanted the throne and Ryo says that he knows that, he knows that it was always his mother who wanted power no matter what. On Zyron Hiro is talking with his mother and asks her what happened to her peony dress, which she wore for the last time on the night his father died. She insists she threw it out because it held too many terrible memories and Hiro asks if it was really too full of his father’s blood. She finally confesses to him and says that Ryo was an impediment. Hiro and Ryo are discussing his plan to abdicate. He says that he will have ships in orbit to monitor what is happening as his mother still holds control over some high powered generals. Three asks if Ryo trusts him and while he needs him, Ryo does not say he trusts him. Three thinks that he is being played. Ryo and Six are sharing time together in the kitchen and he says that he’s glad that they didn’t kill him. Apparently he and Portia had been planning when to kill him, he then says that while the others are different than how they were before, there are aspects of them that are still the same. Ryo plans to make multiple blink drives and wishes to outfit his people. Six says that he can’t do that because this technology is too dangerous. He says that he won’t let him do this, but Ryo disagrees. Ryo has them take the Raza to Zyron, but Nyx isn’t with them when they begin the flight. Then when they do arrive Hiro is not the one making the announcement. His mother says that he was the target of an assassination attempt, and while he is still alive, she is currently in charge. She then tells all of Zyron that this was a coup led by Ryo and the members of the Raza. Hiro’s mother also had all of the ships helping her son blown up. Two says that they need to go and the Raza leaves Zyron.

Away from his home planet Ryo is trying to regroup. He is talking to Drago about the possibility of a spy, but he insists that there can’t be one. Drago also says he needs him to return to Zyron. Two doesn’t want to put her crew in danger, but Ryo says that he’s going and that he understands. He insists he trusts Drago, but Two says that this will be his downfall. Ryo informs her that Portia would have trusted him, but he doesn’t miss her. Three and Six are talking about Ryo, Three says that Ryo has been avoiding him ever since he got his memories back. He thinks that he must know something that he doesn’t want to talk about it, while Three wants to know, he thinks it might be best not knowing if it really is something Ryo refuses to talk about. Before he leaves Ryo and Android are talking about how she has changed. He tells her that her capacity for emotional response was not an accident. Two and Five bonded by changing Android, Ryo says the answer about why they did it lies within her. Android says that’s poetic, but it doesn’t help her. Ryo chuckles and says that no it really is inside of her. There are recording devices that wouldn’t have been deleted when she rebooted. This means that she should be able to learn why she was changed. Nyx finds Ryo and asks why he won’t let her go with him and while she thinks it is because he worries that the crew could get hurt, he insists it is because he does not need her. Ryo has snuck into Zyron to speak to Drago and he finds him dead. Before he can leave Hiro’s mother arrives with a group of guards to greet him. Okay, now this is where my recording got a little bit glitchy so I apologize if I’ve missed something big. Ryo is in his mother’s new throne room and is being threatened by her men. The Raza crew, even though they weren’t going to help Ryo, have snuck onto Zyron in disguise. I mean they weren’t going to just let him go it alone, he might have his memories back, but they still care about him. In their attempt to get him out everyone, except Five has been captured. It turns out that the empress did have a spy, but not in the way that Ryo would have been able to anticipate. The seers were helping the empress in order to further their own goals. The new empress of Zyron commands her people to get rid of Ryo and the majority of the Raza crew when a man enters and says that a ship has appeared over the planet. Android is flying the Raza and she says that if they don’t let the crew go that she will open fire. Two has given her specific orders to carry out this mandate, even though it would place the crew at risk. Five shoots her way into Hiro’s bedroom and she says she’s here to rescue him. Android is still explaining that she would go through with killing her crew because she feels no empathy. The empress tells one of her women to kill a crew member. She grabs Ryo and before she can kill him Hiro appears and tells her that she serves the throne, which means she must obey him and not his mother. Hiro then places his mother under arrest and then abdicates his title to return the throne to Ryo. He asks the head seer what will happen next and he says that the empress will be banished, exile will be her punishment, he says that he will make Hiro his chief advisor and that they will leave without Nyx, but they will keep a connection with Zyron that will last for years. Ryo says that he guessed wrong and he literally kills everyone in the room who is not a member of the Raza crew.

That was bloody way to end the double episode arc and it looks like the finale is going to be as insane as I anticipated. I’m curious to see what happens between Ryo and the rest of the Raza crew now that he is the emperor of Zyron. I also really wasn’t anticipating all that bloodshed right before the credits, Ryo is ruthless.
