I hadn’t realized this when I watched AHS: Hotel last week, but Devil’s Night was part of a Halloween two parter. I noticed something said part one of two right before I started writing up my recap of Devil’s Night. This week let me pretend it was still Halloween and feel less bad about not taking down my decorations yet.
Yesterday’s episode, Room Service, drops us in with the newly turned Alex trying to handle her knew vampiric lifestyle while working at the hospital. Pretty sure you aren’t supposed to use the blood cooler as your own personal snack bar. She tries to use her new powers for good, but that’s going to come back to bite someone in the neck. Donovan takes Iris to Ramona’s snazzy pad, her butler Graves is not please. He’s going to use his mama to help take down The Countess from the inside of the Hotel. Angela Bassett rocks the heck out of an all silk evening ensemble by the way.
Iris is going through a heck of a time after getting turned by Donovan. Liz Taylor is very quick to point out how crappy she looks, though she does make Iris a blood cocktail. She is a very observant bartender. Iris is more upset about being turned than anything else because she thinks that she’s been trapped in the worst point in her life for eternity. Liz insists violet eye shadow will do the trick.
We get a Halloween party as we see what Alex’s accidental newborn is up to at school. He doesn’t have measles any more, but he’s got a thirst that can’t be denied. The kid somehow infects everyone with measles and then while they feel like they are dying he tells them to drink from teachers. Yep, awesome work Alex. You’ve made a crazy baby vampire hoard with no idea what they heck they are doing. The kid has his new vampire friends telling the cops the same lie about a murderous intruder in a mask to cover up his crimes, he’s a wicked little boy.
The detective is at work and he’s telling his boss all about everything he watched at Mr. March’s Devil’s Night dinner party. He sounds super crazy and the lieutenant tells him that he never should have let him come back to the force after his emotional breakdown following the disappearance of his son. The detective isn’t a real detective anymore, crap now I’m going to have to try and remember to call him John. Saying the detective made me feel like Ra’s al Ghul talking about Batman.
Two hipsters decide to check into the Hotel for Halloween and Iris looks really pleased about it, if I could include a sarcastic eye roll here I would. The Countess and Tristan make their first appearance in lovely costumes, she’s Marie Antoinette or at least something similar, and he’s something Victorian looking. I’m going with Mr. Hyde because he totally doesn’t have Dr. Jekyll’s temperment. The hipsters are still pestering Iris with ridiculous requests and I mean I totally want to eat them and I’m not a recently turned vampire. At least I don’t think I am, but it seems like everyone is doing it. Liz Taylor is a fabulous woman who will ruin these kids. Seriously, I just want to hang out with Liz because she is a wonderful human being.
We finally get Liz’s backstory and it’s great! Before becoming Liz, he was a married man named Nick, with a wife and kids. He used his time in hotel rooms to indulge in his inner desires. One night he stayed at The Cortez and The Countess came to him. She told him that while he looked and acted like a man that he smelled like woman. She offered to help him become who he was born to be and she helped him to become the Liz Taylor we have come to know and love, with a bit of a makeover and a smattering of murder. After hearing the story, Iris delivers some very special pate to the hipsters, who are still horrible people that I’m totally fine with her eating. I’m pretty sure the definition of room service at The Cortez is a bit different than at your average hotel.
Sally finally appears in a surprising place, she and the detective got pretty cozy, or so she says. He might actually be losing his mind staying at the Hotel. Sally insists that they are destined to be together so he has that to look forward to. Iris and Liz seem to have struck up a nice little friendship, I mean friends don’t let friends dump bodies alone. Kathy Bates is marvelous in this episode, I’m really looking forward to seeing more of her vampiric self. The Countess puts Alex in charge of the children and she goes to sleep with Holden in his coffin. I think The Countess had it upgraded for the occasion.
I might not have loved last week’s episode, but this week definitely made up for it. There was so much to see and getting Liz’s backstory and the new Iris plot I think will be amazing. I’m definitely looking forward to next week. If you want to share your thoughts about this season of AHS you can comment below or tweet at us, @thenerdygirlexp.
