A Belated Trip to Camp Crystal Lake

Yesterday was Friday the 13th and I had planned to watch and write about the original Friday the 13th movie, but things got a bit crazy and I wound up not being able to rewatch the movie until after midnight. Even though I missed out on watching the movie on the right date I still really wanted to write about it. Want to know what I think is the most dangerous part of Camp Crystal Lake?

Tetanus! Seriously do these counselors not care about getting lockjaw? That’d be a worse way to go than getting slashed, I mean just think about it. The first counselors we see are making out in the second floor of a shack that looks like it hasn’t been cleaned since the dawn of time. And not only do those kids decide to fool around in a really sketchy spot, they also just grab a random blanket that is probably as clean as that cabin looked. I get it hormones, but couldn’t you at least find a bed or something less prone to be covered in bugs or secretly hiding rusty nails.

When the movie jumps to the present we see most of the counselors swimming in Crystal Lake, which the truck driver revealed had bad water. Does no one clean anything around here? I mean they are just swimming around in water that probably is still contaminated with whatever made it unsafe in the first place. It doesn’t seem like the guy in charge has enough skills to purify an entire lake. The guy couldn’t even get that stump out of the ground. I’m not even sure he knows how to actually use an ax. I also totally don’t get strip Monopoly. Okay, I mean I understand the idea is to get naked, but why would you want your naked body on that random gross furniture? Everything has a layer of dust and grime on it, I wouldn’t want that getting on me, especially where the sun don’t shine.

I mean with everything these kids are doing at the camp I’m not entirely surprised they keep winding up dead. It either would have been Mrs. Voorhees or some sort of creepy camp infection.
