Do You Want a Gremlin?

It’s the holiday season and the perfect time to pull out the holiday classic Gremlins. I know a lot of people watch it around Halloween, we even had it on the Halloween rack at the video store, but this movie is definitely for Christmas time watching. The entire movie uses Christmas as the focus, without Christmas Gizmo never would have been gifted in the first place. With that in mind see why I think this movie is perfect for any holiday movie night.

My favorite thing about this movie is definitely the mogwai, especially Gizmo. They are just so cute and cuddly, before the whole eating after midnight fiasco. I would totally want one if I could find one. I have a little mini Funko one, but that’s not the same as a full sized plushy one. Even when they turn into gremlins they are still cute. Admittedly they are pretty homicidal, but Stripe has cute hair and I mean they do get rid of that terrible lady that wants to kill Barney. That dog never did anything, I’m pretty sure she just hates dogs. She’s also super Scroogey so I’m not surprised she gets her comeuppance before the movie ends.

The gremlin death sequences are ridiculous, especially the kitchen ones. One gets blended, another gets stabbed, and there’s one that gets microwaved to a crisp. I’m a fan of goofy death scenes in horror movies, I know I’ve mentioned that before in other articles and this movie has great ones. You also get a Corey, which is really the only thing you need in an 80’s horror movie. Corey Feldman plays the cute kid who accidentally gets Gizmo wet and makes this the perfect movie to use as a means to marathon The Lost Boys and The Goonies if you need a break from holiday movies.
