Contain Your Excitement: Here’s my #Containment Review

I know that the movie Containment has been all over my Twitter feed for ages, but I just got a chance to watch it this week. That sounds lame I know, but I had to wait until I could get a hold of the dvd to watch it. If you haven’t seen Containment yet and are a fan of horror movies or thrillers, then you definitely need to see it. Here’s my spoiler free review to infect you with Containment fever.

Containment starts with what seems like a remarkably normal day in a man’s life. The newly single Mark rolls out of bed on the morning of a very important custody meeting and finds himself trapped inside his apartment with no water, no power, and suddenly no cell service. As he tries to figure out what’s going on some of his neighbors bust through one of his walls and he learns that everyone in his apartment complex woke up to this crazy situation. He finds himself working together with his elderly neighbor, a nurse, a conspiracy theorist, a super aggressive dude, and a silent young boy to find out why they have been trapped inside their apartment complex by government agents in orange hazmat suits.

The entire film is set in the United Kingdom, but no official city is ever named. As the story progresses we learn that a virus is believed to be present in the apartment complex and that people have been sent to deal with it. No disease is ever specified and even when information is given to the trapped residents they learn very little. What I loved about this movie was the fact that this sort of situation could actually happen and the reactions we seem from the actors seem like exactly what would happen if people were trapped somewhere with no explanation. There is a lot of violence and death, but never because of the disease itself. What we see is the panicked actions of confused people in a time of crisis. Even the end of the movie leaves you wondering just what has happened and if such an event could happen to you.

I was sucked into this movie from the very beginning, it’s definitely a great watch. I will warn you though that there is a black screen before the actually end of the movie. Do not turn it off! Wait until the credits start rolling to stop, you’ll regret it if you don’t watch all of it.
