Have You Heard About Fuller House?

Back a long time ago, when I was a kid and sitcoms were my world one of my favorites was Full House. It starred comedian Bob Saget as straight laced Danny Tanner, a widower with three young daughters. He needs help so he calls on his funny best friend and his wild brother in-law Jesse to move in. The show was full of hijinks and touching moments as we watched the girls grow up and even saw Jesse settle down, get married and have a family of his own. It was definitely a full house.

The show ended in 1995 and I thought that would be the end of it. Then Netflix stepped in with a sequel to the show called Fuller House. Premiering exclusively on Netflix it will be a comedy sitcom with thirteen 30 minute long episodes. The show is about DJ Tanner-Fuller (haha get it?), the eldest daughter of Danny Tanner. She is all grown up with three boys of her own ages 12, 7, infant and has also been recently widowed. Just like her dad, DJ (Candace Cameron Bure) needs help and she calls on her younger sister Stephanie (an aspiring musician) and best friend Kimmy (who has a teenage daughter of her own) to move in.

The show’s creator is Jeff Franklin; the same man behind the original Full House and except Mary Kate and Ashley Olson (who opted out due to Ashley having not acted in over 12 years and bad timing for Mary-Kate who is too busy with their fashion line and all the awards they keep winning for it), every character will reprise their old roles. John Stamos (who played Uncle Jesse for anyone who has lived under a rock for over twenty years) is also one of the executive producers. So we know there will be a lot of nostalgia and love coming from this show. But can it match up to the original?

While I’m sure it will try to put in as much heart as it can, the show will have to grow from its roots and not just repeat them to become a hit. So far the story seems very similar to the original and not just because of the widowed parent with three kids. It looks like they are in the same home as before, along with the same furnishings even. Stephanie is an aspiring musician, just like her Uncle Jesse had been and Kimmy was always the comedy relief and that was the role best friend Joey played to Danny as well.

There are differences of course; Kimmy has a teenage daughter from the start. We don’t yet know about DJ’s sons other than their ages. DJ and her sisters were primarily good kids who sometimes made the wrong choices, but always righted them in the end. Will her sons be like that as well? Or will one or more of them be more of a troublemaker? Being on Netflix, the show will have fewer constraints on it and will be able to show more dramatic and emotional sides to the characters that I hope we will see.
We don’t have to wait long as the show will be released on February 26th. So far there has only been one preview trailer for the show. I’ve also added some behind the scene photos from the show and you can see more of them at the Fuller House Instagram.

I’m not too sure on that song choice in the trailer, but there’s a baby Comet so I still hold out high hope that this spin off sequel will be as great as the original. It has all the makings of another classic sitcom and looks as if it has more polish than the original. I will definitely be watching and writing a review about it once it has been released.
