The hunt begins. Shadowhunters made its debut last night setting the stage for the conflicts that will arise throughout the season.

But before that, let’s set up the story.  This article contains spoilers so if you haven’t seen the premiere of Shadowhunters, please do not continue reading.

In the premiere, we meet Clary and learn that she is a hybrid, half human, half angel. When she was a little girl, young Clary was targeted by an evil demonic creature while out playing by a pond with her mermaid doll.  Fortunately, she was saved by her mother, Jocelyn, who uses a seraph blade to kill them demon.  Fearful that her daughter will learn the truth about her legacy, Jocelyn takes Clary to a powerful warlock named Magnus Bane. Presto, Clary’s memories of the incident are wiped and she can grow up as a normal child.

Fast forward. Clary is now an 18 year old art student.  She is a normal teen with a fun-loving personality.  Jocelyn knows that her daughter’s life will soon change now that Clary is 18 but tries to stall telling her the truth about her Shadowhunters  legacy. Jocelyn gives Clary an important Shadowhunters relic called a steele.  Clary will cherish the gift always. Ah, no, the teenager just puts it in her pocket and goes off to meet her friends.

To make a long story short, weird stuff happens with Jocelyn getting killed and Clary learning the truth about the Shadowhunters then embarking on the good vs evil fight.

The premiere did a wonderful job in setting up the premise and introducing the characters. Eye-candy Simon will surely be a character discussed often in social media.

I look forward to seeing how this series continues to unfold.  Although some fans of the book series may not find it as enjoyable, I feel Shadowhunters is off to a great start.
