As Supernatural is airing the repeat of “Don’t You Forget About Me” featuring the returns of Jody Mills, Alex Jones and Claire Novak on March 9, I thought I’d offer an opinion why a Supernatural spin-off featuring these characters would be a great move for the future of the Supernatural franchise.

Supernatural is currently in its 11th season and as much as any fan would hate to admit, the show won’t last forever.  I feel that a plan should be put into place to “Carry On” after our favorite sons leave our screens, what better way than to “Carry On” with our favorite wayward daughters?

Besides for the appearance of some females in episodes and the female characters that have recurred, Supernatural is basically a guy show.  Don’t get me wrong, when the guys are Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, I’m not complaining.  But female power would be great too.  Remember Charmed?  The Halliwell sisters were awesome witches who kicked supernatural ass in the eight seasons that show aired.

Jody Mills, Alex Jones and Claire Novak are already established female characters with knowledge of the supernatural and skills in which to fight. Part of the reason I believe Supernatural’s attempt at a spin-off failed previously with “Bloodlines,” was because of the characters were just introduced in the episode with the expectation that viewers would care enough to invest watching them again in a series.  Not so with Jody and her two charges.  Additionally, a spin-off with these characters could open up the possibility of other previous Supernatural characters guest starring, like fan favorite Sheriff Donna.

Additionally, I recently interviewed Katherine Ramdeen, who plays Alex Jones, and she would love a return to the Supernatural universe.   Katherine, Kim Rhodes (Jody Mills) and Claire Novak (Kathryn Newton) have talent and chemistry that could sustain a series.
