Last year, I discovered Big Mo by Megan Padalecki. For those of you who aren’t familiar with this book, Big Mo is the story of a pet iguana who is burdened by an insatiable appetite that threatens the natural environment.
Architect turned author Padalecki is a true talent. Her professional training serves her well. As both the writer and illustrator of this enchanting book, she is able to bring heart to Big Mo’s story through her exquisite illustrations. Children will fall in love with this book. Big Mo isn’t a character to fear. His overwhelming hunger may be a flaw, yet readers will root for Big Mo’s journey of discovery and hope that he finds a way to curb his appetite before it destroys natural resources.
While the intended age of Padalecki’s debut children’s book may be ages 3-8, Padalecki does something remarkable. She created a tale with an important message of conservation of the Earth’s resources that is relevant for all ages.
On this Earth Day, it is important for all of us to acknowledge and preserve this incredible planet.
Big Mo is a literary treasure offering an important and relevant message. Big Mo should be read this Earth Day!
