Show Some Love For Your Favorite Ladies from @kleffnotes

Let’s get nerdy and chat about our favorite ladies in pop culture. I’m always on the lookout for kick butt female characters and thought that I would go to our amazing readers to find out who some of your favorites are.

To start the ball rolling I thought I’d share some of my favorite ladies from a variety of genres so that you know that any female character you want to talk about it up for grabs. One of my oldest favorite female characters is Catwoman/Selina Kyle from Batman: The Animated Series. Not only did she have a super cute cat, which I always wanted, but she was a successful and smart woman. She wasn’t really a bad guy, just a bit of a thief. Even when she was stealing things, Selina was always looking out for animals and trying to help them. Beyond that she could hold her own with Batman, she was really like a female equivalent within the series for me.

For live action ladies one of my more recent favorites is Jessica Jones, specifically her portrayal in the Netflix original series by Krysten Ritter. Jessica is strong and working so hard to deal with life after Kilgrave. Her world isn’t perfect, but she does her best to make it through. I love her relationship with Trish and the selflessness she shows for those she feels responsible for. Jessica is also just so cool, I wish I could be more like her.

In comics I have loved Cassie Hack for ages. She’s the main character in Hack/Slash, which is a really cool series about a teenage girl who travels the country and takes out slashers. It’s a bit Buffyesque, but a lot darker, bloodier, and more adult themed. Cassie wears clothes that I wish I could wear and goes through so many changes in the comics that it was great reading them because it helped me to see someone else dealing with new stages in their life. I didn’t go hunt slashers, but I was transitioning from high school to college and it showed me that everyone can make it through. Cassie holds her own against the creepiest and deadliest of villains and still manages to look awesome doing it.

Here’s my final female character share, Carmilla from the web series Carmilla. She might enter the show as a standoffish and snarky character, but she becomes more open and emotional as her story develops. What I love about Carmilla is that she is able to find love, even when she isn’t planning for it, and she cares so deeply that she will go through anything to protect the one she loves. She also pulls off leather pants, which I think is a feat in and of itself.
