Reviewing Restoration and the Frightening Mind of @TotalZackWard from @kleffnotes

Zack Ward, most well known as the yellow eyed terror Scut Farkus from the holiday classic A Christmas Story, has created a horror movie full of terrifying twists and turns in his debut feature Restoration.

The movie focuses on Rebecca and Todd Jordan, a young couple who’ve recently moved into what appears to be a quaint suburban neighborhood. Todd is renovating their new home while Rebecca spends long hours at her new job at the local hospital. While renovating Todd comes across a teddy bear that is so much more than it appears. As they try and understand what happened to the little girl who owned it they find themselves learning about a string of disappearances and a horrific secret lurking within their very own neighborhood.

Now when I first started this movie I was thinking, oh hey, haunted house movie, but it is so much more than that. Restoration lulls you into a sense of safety by seeming to rely on horror tropes like nightmares, ghostly visions, and creepy kids, but suddenly jerks you in a completely different direction. Rebecca and Todd also reach out to their neighbors, Harold and Francine to try and help them deal with the strange things that keep happening to them and things just get crazier. Zack Ward, besides writing and directing the film, plays Harold.

The ending completely surprised me, I never would have guessed the reveal that happened. When you watch this movie just keep in mind that nothing is ever as it appears. I definitely recommend Restoration to any horror fan looking for something new and inventive. Ward does a great job of keeping you guessing right until the very end.
