Today August 29, TNT re-aired the Supernatural Season 7 Episode “There Will Be Blood” which featured an appearance by the Alpha Vamp.
Supernatural audiences first met the Alpha Vamp in the Season 6 episode “Family Matters,” (although we caught a brief glimpse of the Alpha Vamp in “Live Free or Twi-Hard”) when we learned that Samuel Campbell had made a deal with the devil, or rather, The King of Hell. In exchange for bringing Mary back from the dead, her father Samuel was to round-up all the first of its kind species aka the alphas and deliver them to Crowley, who reasoned that the alphas could tell him the location of Purgatory.
Actor Rick Worthy played the Alpha Vamp with a cool wittiness that made us forget that he was a dangerous monster and nemesis of Sam and Dean Winchester (Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles). He also seemed to be very intelligent and more than capable of holding his own against a flock of hunters. When we next saw the Alpha Vamp, he faced off against Leviathan henchman Edgar and almost became Edgar’s dinner but Sam and Dean’s intervention saved his undead life. In exchange, Alpha Vamp gave the Winchesters his blood to use for their weapon to kill the Leviathans. His parting words “See you next season” never came to pass.
It’s been four seasons since we’ve seen the Alpha Vamp and I’d like to think he’s alive somewhere out there. But where has he been? I think it’s time for him to stir up trouble for Sam and Dean in Season 12. I always enjoy the vampire episodes of Supernatural and since the Alpha Vamp is one of my favorites, I’d cheer his comeback.
