Batwoman Updates from @DCComics from @kleffnotes

This week DC Comics released new information about the upcoming Batwoman solo comic series. Batwoman has emerged as one of my absolute favorite new DC characters ever since I read details about her in Sam Maggs’ The Fangirl’s Guide to the Galaxy. I have been devouring the comics that involve Batwoman ever since that moment. Though she currently doesn’t have a solo comic you can find Kate Kane within Detective Comics, working with Batman to train a team to help protect the city of Gotham. With this series on my pull list I have been keeping up to date with my favorite character and I have been eagerly awaiting any updates about her solo series.

According to the new Batwoman series will spin off from Detective Comics with a two issue Batwoman Begins storyline and then there will be a Batwoman: Rebirth spotlight comic. If you haven’t been reading DC Rebirth a number of characters received a single spotlight comic, these were often used to set up the new plots. The new series will be written by Marguerite Bennett and James Tynion IV with art from Ben Oliver and Steve Epting. Batwoman’s story is connected to the previous multi-series event, Night of the Monster Men, which revealed that monster blood was being weaponized within Gotham.

In Batwoman: Rebirth Kate will have to look to her past to try and find out who is behind the rise of Monster Venom, the bioweapon made from monster blood. This introduction will lead into The Many Arms of Death plot of Batwoman’s solo series. It will focus on her traveling to Coryana, where she left behind a number of enemies before her return to Gotham. I am immensely excited to see what will happen with Batwoman traveling outside of the city and being separated from the rest of the Bat-family. Not only that, but I am curious to see what becomes of her relationship with her father, Jacob Kane.

Batwoman’s story is something that you can catch up on very easily. You can start with Batwoman: Elegy and then read the collected volumes of her New 52 run. It’s only 7 graphic novels total and then Detective Comics is a super easy single issue that you can find online or at your local comic book store. Her solo series will begin in 2017 and I’m trying to get as many people as possible to read it because Kate Kane is such an amazing character.
