ClexaCon Panelist Profile: Susan Surftone from @kleffnotes ( @ClexaCon )

Susan Surftone is a remarkable woman who is never afraid to speak her mind. While she is currently a surf guitarist, singer, and songwriter, she has worked for the FBI and in other intensive work environments. The journey of coming out and understanding who you are is different for everyone and in this collected work of non-fiction Candace Walsh and Barbara Straus Lodge share the stories of a number of women who found themselves leaving heterosexual relationships as they learned to embrace their own truths. Greetings from Janeland: Women Write More About Leaving Men for Women is a follow up work to Dear John, I Love Jane, which was published in 2010, and provides even more stories of coming out. Today, October 11th, is National Coming Out Day. This is a day that celebrates that special, though not always easy, moment of coming out to those you love and sharing your identity as a member of the LGBTQ+ community. No Dress Code Required Movie Review from @kleffnotes

The award winning documentary, No Dress Code Required, is screening this week at the Human Rights Watch Film Festival in New York and while I was not able to attend these screenings in person I was given the opportunity to the watch the film. In this feature, directed by Cristina Herrera Borquez, we are introduced to Victor and Fernando, two men who are deeply in love and wish to get married in Baja California, Mexico. As they begin their journey toward matrimony they are beset with a number of discouraging setbacks and exhausting governmental back and forth.
